My Ade scope turned out as expected, crappy. Sending it back and getting a vortex 1-8. I did shot mine with a red dot site a little today though. I was surprised on how soft shooting it is. Spun a can on it to see and wow, it's going to be a great hunting rig.

I found out I was gonna get stuck at home for opening day of deer season yesterday so I decided to strip down my 12 inch PSA upper last night.
The barrel nut was pretty tight but it didn't feel over-torqued like many PSA uppers I've taken apart. Maybe on the high end of spec around 60/70 lbs. The front face of the receiver did look a little rough. There were some chips in the finish around the inside on the front edge and the last 2 or 3 lines of threads were very rough to the touch. The face didn't feel rough to the touch, but while lapping it with my Wheeler tool it did appear to be wearing uneven when I spot checked my progress. I applied some red loctite ro the barrel extension and reinstalled it. I also applied some to the gas block to bed it as well. So hopefully later today I can get a chance to shoot it and see if there is any improvement. I'm also going to leave the muzzle bare for now as well as per earlier suggestions. I ordered some shims that will be here later next week.

I have a 12" Grendel pistol that I keep in my pickup with a 2-7x32 Vortex that is used primarily for hogs. It is very accurate and tough on hogs out to 300 yds.

Forgot to mention it earlier but I have my gas block adjusted to 3.5 turns out with Wolf. Started by bottoming it out and in screwing it a 1/2 turn at a time with one round in mag. Held last shot open at 3 so gave a half turn for good measure. Worked good with the can at that setting also. It was the borrowed can so once I install mine I may pinch it back here if possible.
What are the rest of you setting yours at?

The easiest thing to do is reach out to PSA for a replacement, do not tell them you have disassembled if you go down that path of chasing the rat.

Shot it again this evening. Zeroing at 30 yards, two three shot groups each measured 1 and 3/8 inch. This compared to the 36 yard zero groups for my 20 inch ARP barrelled Grendel measuring in at 5/8 and 1/2 inch. I shot both with and without the muzzle device. There was a shift in POI but no difference in the group size.
Pretty annoying but it is what it is... gonna relegate it to being a short range Wolf bimetal bullet slinger.

Id clean it and check the crown with a Q-Tip. Ive found a quick crown cleanup can do very amazing things. Now on that thought, I can appreciate that your OK with it as is for a close range bandit. Sometimes thats how it goes. Whether you keep or not, all guns have purposes.

I have a Vortex Strike Eagle 1-8 w/mount coming (Vet Day Sale) If it shows up this weekend Ill do a quick sight in and range out for a day of coyotes with my buddy.

nation15 takes it down another $10 or so. Is this as cheap as these scopes are going to get with a mount? Wanting to hold out to BF, but if i could get one before that would be great.

Nation15 didnt work for me. When I used it it canceled out the free mount. Cheapest just scope is opticsplanet for $349 plus use s 11%coupon

I'm not having any problems when I do it. Just make sure you cancel out of fall13. Just effectively saves 2% more. haha

I bought one of the 12 nitride uppers last week(then joined this forum). Shot it for the first time today. 50 rds, no feed issues but damn sure isnt shooting 1 MOA as advertised. First 40 were wolf averaging 2-4 at 40 yds. The groups did get tighter after the first 20 rds or so. Shot 5 SSTs and 5 ELD-M Hornady factory loaded, both were well over 4 at 100 yds. Going to clean the barrel and try again tomorrow, maybe it will tighten up. I dont believe that 1 MOA will ever happen but if I could get close to 2 MOA that would be great.
This was also my first run in with the 6.5 Grendel. Just shooting steel you can tell its got a lot more umph than the 300 BLK I am coming from! Hopefully I can get this PSA shooting decent so I can try it on a deer or two. |
