Only thing I regret about the 16 is that I didn't get a mid-length.
Three more weeks till regular season starts here in VT but hope to get one in NH durring muzzleloader next week.
I’ve got the heavy barrel profile 16” carbine gas J&T Distributing/DS 6.5 Grendel and it is really a good shooter. I to would prefer a midlength gas system now but I built the 16” 6.5 Grendel to match my 16” duty rifle. The only issue with the 16” carbine gas I’ve encountered is it short strokes with my reloads using 123 grain bullets and CFE223 powder. I guess the CFE223 powder is just slow burning enough it throws off the dwell time with the CG 16” barrel. I shot the same load in my 12” carbine 6.5 Grendel with no issue. Other than the one issue with CFE223 reload my J&T has been gtg. I’ve shot the same load of CFE223 in 16” midlength, 18” midlength 20” and 24” rifle gas system AR-15’s without issue.
I've had great luck with the J&T/DS so far! Accuracy is very good for a light 16", recoil impulse could be better, maybe an enhanced buffer spring would be good.
I shoot wolf or factory 123 eld and it likes both, unless, if I use that upper on my rifle lower than I also get short strokes or the brass just barely poops out.
