Grendelized 8 point

The rut kicked in here in north Alabama yesterday, and bucks were on the move. I was walking along a flooded ditch row when I jumped this guy and his doe. They ran about 50 yds and stopped to look back. The grass in the grown over field was so high that I could only see the bucks head and the outline of his neck. One quick shot through the neck with the 100 TTSX put him straight down.

Thanks all. Combine my son's first buck this year and this nice 8 pt, and this has turned out to be a great hunting season for my house. Between my boy and me, the my Grendel has taken 10 deer the past 2 years with the 100 TTSX. I'm impressed with the performance of this little bullet!

What kind of sling do you have on your rifle? What does your rifle weigh with an empty mag and scope mounted? I have been thinking of having my 20" LW (CSS) barrel fluted, but I hate to to mess with something that works so good

Welcome Zach! Yes the rut is strange in Alabama. Reproductive studies conducted on the farm where I hunt indicate that the majority of the fawns are conceived mid. January to mid. Feb. Traditionally around January 15th is The time for the rut to kick in here. In south AL many complain that the rut does not even start until the season is over (end of Jan.). As I understand it, the genes of the deer in this part of north Al are a result of a restocking effort years ago with deer from south AL. In contrast, about an hour north in Tennesse, where I grew up hunting, the peak of the rut is around Thanksgiving weekend.

I have a TAB sling on my rifle. It is not lightweight, but it is well made with lots of nice features. I occasionally shoot high power rifle with my RRA 5.56 NM, and in a similar manner, the TAB sling lets me quickly "sling up" for prone or sitting if I want to in a hunting situation.

My rifle weighs around 8.5 lbs unloaded with 20" LW barrel and Vortex Viper HS 4-16x50mm scope in Burris PEPR mount. It is no lightweight, but the stability is nice for field shooting.

I have a similar setup

but when I put it on the scale when I built it, it came in at just a hair under 10 pounds. It has a Bushnell 6500 Tactical scope 2.5-16 which is suppose to weigh 17oz but they list the same weight for the one that does not have the target knobs so it is probably heavier. The scope is mounted in a GG&G FLT

Which adds 5.5 oz.

I am thinking of trying some sort of double shoulder single point sling like:

and some type of load bearing vest that will fit under my daypack.

Yes I'm interested to know too. It came right around thanksgiving here in southern Mo. Ruts getting later I think with the last several warm winters. ???
