Thanks -- but a 200gr 35 cal bullet going 2385 fps from a 16" barrel seems like claiming 2700 fps for a 123 gr bullet from a 18" Grendel.

In other words, his pressure is likely well in excess of the 52 ksi SAAMI max for the Grendel.

Having said that, even 1900 - 2000 fps from that carbine would make it a fine game harvester.

My guy is telling me 2200 fps with the 200 gr FTX. I don't know what length barrel yet. I will update when he gets back to me.

Thanks, 2200 is closer to the ball park for a 24-inch barrel with max load and 200 gr. bullet.

bj139, those necks on the Six5 or 6.5 SPC look pretty short. What is the length?

The necks are 0.1964". The case trim to length spec is 1.610" with the 6.8SPC case.

He says it is a 16.5" barrel. Apparently, there were a few guys working on developing this and had come up with some sort of design. A few barrels were made for further development and testing and his is one of them. One of those working on it suddenly died a few months ago so, at least for now, it is unlikely to go any further.

Regarding names, each caliber appears to have more than one. This even more true for the Grendel where the name was trademarked for a number of years to keep the design from being hijacked and dostorted by people who wanted to promote slightly tweaked design.

I'm pretty sure you guys are talking about the 358 Gremlin. I believe the Gremlin was the first wildcat Grendel cartridge. 'Twas desinged to comply with some Midwest states ( Illinois ?) obscure huting laws. Something about meeting pistol specifications in a rifle. Load data on .357 bullets for plinking hornady 200gr for dear. I believe Ruger played around with it some in a Mini 14 configeration. Some guy was even making loaded ammo for it for a while.

These same guys also did what they called a 358 Herret AR. Made with 6.8SPC brass and 357 Herret dies. Their plan was for a 35 caliber class round using commonly available brass formed with the minimum forming steps and using commonly available bolts.
