StoneHendge, great idea. An example:

This thread was started as marketing research into a niche aspect of the forum, probably because the elephant in the room is that it is problematic. All cards are on the table in the comments and poll.
Like 52', I come here for the technical discussions and while I sometimes read the 2A threads I learned a while back that participating is pointless. It quickly turn into pernickety, useless bickering. The only person prepared to accept a different argument is Montana who is the epitome of good manners and reason. That is why I don't 'contribute' to 2A, it is unpleasant and of no use to me. Not my site so not my decision to make. Happy to give feedback as requested.

This is what I think Stans problem is and what people are so tired of here.
I'd hate to see Stan disappear altogether. He does bring a wealth of experience. When he is acting in the former he's an asset to the discussion. The problem is he to often falls into the latter category.
Enough is enough.
I'd suggest we let this thread serve as a warning to anyone who only wants to force their opinions onto other, not contributing to the betterment of the discussion. If they continue to act in the same manner beyond this point, they should be banned from the 2A sub forum.
Cory:
I have read most of Stan's arguments and they are well thought out, well worded, and well supported. I have never read a word from him in any forum where he was trying to 'force' his views on anyone.
I did ask him to stop posting to a specific 2A thread for some reason and he did so without any snide remarks. Very uncommon.
I don't buy the 'betterment of the discussion' notion because that argument is normally used by those who do not want to hear a differing opinion or support their argument in a debate.
He is bringing a solid legal and historical perspective to the discussions, at least initially. They soon degenerate into inane and stupid 'who said what' arguments and arguments over the definition of simple words. Why? Because every 2A thread ends up in a stalemate where both sides repeat the same basic arguments until something has to give.
I agree with LRRP52. The Grendel forum is primarily a technical one involving the cartridge, firearms, and the use of them.

That is an example of a solicitation for a donation to a politician. Boiler plate 2A stuff to get gun owners to send he money.

cory Wrote:Otherwise it's just arrogantly forcing your opinion onto others. This is what I think Stans problem is and what people are so tired of here. No one can force his opinion onto others. As with everyone else here, I can only present my opinion for others to consider. They are free to disregard it.

And leave this one as is. "General commiserating about gun grabbers and libtards" is a waste of time and energy. Besides, there are already threads of that nature in Room 2A. Leave the commiserating here.
However, due to the cluttered nature of this sub-forum, I do like the idea of a separate sub-forum dedicated exclusively to discussing Tactics and Methods for conducting the 2A fight.

The only problem with that is that stanc would find himself alone in this room and figure out where everybody went........ Shhh. Don't tell him, and maybe he'll be too busy tangoing with an invisible partner to notice everyone has left the room.

NugginFutz Wrote:What solution was I referring to? Just go back to the post you weighed in on, where I was posing a comparison, and see LR55's post I was personally responding to. If you want to get a more specific statement of the solution, ask LR55. He asked for ideas, in the first place. Non-answer.

Then someone else would accuse me of engaging in semantics, or arguing about minutiae, and off we go...

I also believe in other freedoms. One of which is to choose not to go where one doesn't want to go, and for me that's Room 2A. Just like I don't go to parties or bars where I know I'm not going to have any fun based upon who will be there.

Stan, you may have the floor. Feel free to tango by yourself.
If it's true that we are here to help others, then what exactly are the others here for?
