4 round elander mags
#1
My anxiously awaited Grendel upper assembly arrived today. Using Hornady Black 123 gr and Federal Fusion 120 gr. with 4 round e-lander mags. Feeding problems which I suspect maybe related to the mags. With a single round, the rifle will cycle properly and lock back on the empty mag. When the mag is loaded, the fired cartridge will not fully ejected and the loaded round appears to hit up against the front of the mag. I see from other posts that this is common with other manufacturers mags but I haven't found anything on the 4 round e-landers. Any suggestions?

There is a modification you can do to the front of the mag. Basically you clearance the front edge with a dremel.

Since you mentioned the fired round isn’t being ejected, I would radius the edge of ejector. While you are at it, go ahead and file the edges of the extractor too.

Do a search as I don’t have links to the mods.

I attacked the mag with the Dremel this morning. Worked on the front of the mag and also removed two coils from the mag spring. Runs fine on both brands of ammo. I didn't need to go after the extractor or the ejector since it seems to be a mag problem. I purchased the E-landers because of the good reviews. I had suspected that the mag might be the problem when I started poking around on the internet. Thanks for the advise.

You should probably buy some new replacement springs, as your "cut" springs "season", you might start having new problems crop up that will be due to weak mag springs.

I have found that a lot of mag 10 rounds and less are over sprung. I have a few 10 P-mag that where so over sprung it was a chore to cycle the bolt on a bolt actoin rifle. To correct that I had to trim the spring I've had to do this on 223 and 308 mag. I've since gone to blocked off P-Mags for hunting use.

That's what i found on the 4 round E-lander mag. When releasing the the bolt, I had to use the forward assist to completely close the bolt on the first round. No problem now.

I have LR10 P-mags that I cut 1.5 loops out of and have over a 1000 round threw them and no issues since I trimmed them.

Not many places sell the elander grendel mags, just Google elander 6.5 grendel mags on sale and you will see.

After googling it pick the one with the best price.

Edit to add- when you get your mags don't matter who they are made by, take them apart clean them really good inside check the follower first have burrs, check no parts of the mag hag up the follower, load the mag to full capacity and leave it loaded for a week are so to set the spring.

Oh and if you get the asc 5 or 10 round mag order a 10 round pmag and change out the springs, much better function with the pmag spring in the asc mags.

I am having the same problem with both a 10 and 4 round Elander mags. I loaded the mags for a week and tried again today. Better when mags are not loaded to max capacity but continue to have issues with full mags. That said Hornady ELD M and SST's cycle fine partially full or completely full. Federal 120 gr OTM and and 90 gr Speers jam with anything more than 3 or 4 rounds.

I came home disassembled and took emory cloth to all the lips. Loaded back up and will wait another week. What a pain in the neck.

If your experiencing failure to feed it is a good idea to inspect the ejector in the bolt. There is a mod to the ejector on AR-15’s with large case heads like the 6.5 Grendel. This may not be contributing to your problem but worth checking.

It is surprising how much easier to use the E-Lander mags are after they were in. It sure helps to have good reliable mags to compare the rifles function so your sure the mag is the culprit and not some other underlying problem or problems.

Some 6.5 Grendel bolts work with no O ring on the extractor spring and some bolts work better with the O ring on the extractor spring/stud. Some extractors chew up the brass case rims and impede the rim from slipping onto the breach face during feeding.

Not questioning whether you are having mag problems but things I’ve experienced.

I tried an H2 buffer that fixed my issues. Both 10 and 17 round E Lander mags work fine now. Would have done the dremmel fix if the heavier buffer didn’t work.

I'll second VASCAR2 on the extractor o ring. If you have a extractor problem and you are using an o ring with the extractor removing the o ring will fix your extractor problems.
