I just purchased an used upper online. JP barrel assembly with thermo dissapator mega arms upper and rail. Jp 2 chamber break and Adjustable Gad block. It doesnt come with the bolt despite me trying to get it included but for $400 shipped I think I did well. I will be using a JP bolt from my 14.5 inch sabre that I hunt with and probably a lightweight carrier unless yall dont recommend lightweights for Grendel. . I will be needing an affordable bolt if such a thing exists and is decent quality. Now the JP should be for range use/steel out to 1000+, larue suppressed for the blind, sabre for truck gun/plinking/hunting in brush.

Low mass bcg work fine long as you use the adjustable gas and run the correct buffer and buffer spring.
I'm useing no lowmass bcg in all of my grendels, they all have adjustable gas and jp scs setups but can pull the scs and run a standard rifle buffer and spring just as well.
I only use rifle length stocks so can't really say how well the lowmass gear in grendel would work on the shorter stock setups.
As far as bolts go seen a few grendel bolts online tonight on sale for round 60 bucks but my choice is the jp bolt that's all I use pricey but like all JP gear it's built very well.
400 for the upper sounds like a good price if it's in good condition and nothing is wrong with it.

Wow I appreciate the quick reply. Do you have any jp barrels? Im wondering if there is a trend as to what kind of bullets they seem to like. Thanks

LMOS carrier works as intended in 6.5 Grendel. I run my 22" JP barrel with an LMOS and SCS. It's a rifle stock, but that shouldn't make any difference since it's the same SCS plus a spacer. Works like a charm

I got an alternate spring pack over the winter and put in the light spring and have subsequently been able to dial the gas back a couple of clicks.
Aside from breaking it in with Hornady Black, it's only seen a diet of 123 gr Scenars. Shoots them better than I can with the best BC of the 123s, so I've had no need to try anything else.

Yes have two 18 inch jp barrels and a 22 inch on the way soon.
My primary 18 inch that I use for hunting hates sst ammo and the 120 federal fusion load, everything else with me shooting will do 5 at or under a 1 at 100 yards.
Best groups I have ever gotten with that barrel was with the old Amax load and the 100 grain ttsx load from PF.
My other 18 inch loves the fusion and is ok with the sst loads, it also will do 10 rounds of 90 grain tnt just over a inch at 100.
It sits in the safe loaded down with 90 grain tnt ammo as a home defense rifle, will soon be cutting it down to 16 inch to better fill that role.
Haven't got the 22 inch barrel yet but expect to see it do good with most ammo loaded by hornady or PF.
This is with me shooting from the bench and the best top shelf parts I could buy and run in my setups.

Just to add a lil info.
If for whatever reason you have to do work that requires you to take off the gas block, JP specs their barrels so the gas block has to be tight against the shoulder for the gas block to line up properly.
You may find some gas blocks just will not work on this barrel.
