Has anyone seen this on the news?

I don't turn on the TV until after dinner, so don't know if it's been on the news. Kinda wacky story, as reported in the linked article.

I only see local but no national news stories. I guess CNN would have a hard time explaining the positive side of civilians being armed which goes against their anti gun "freedom" agenda. Perception, "not reality" is the political game used by the leftist media today. This is one of many examples.

Guys:

It was on the Seattle news just after it happened. They spent about fifteen seconds on the story and it aired two or three times that day. Then it disappeared. All the news caster said was that a 'Armed citizen' fatally shot a carjacker in a Walmart in Tumwater Wa.

Re "perception": Perhaps your obvious anti-media bias causes you to perceive the national news as having an anti-gun "agenda."

The national news shows typically -- and understandably -- report only on events which are deemed to be of nationwide interest.

They don't generally report on minor criminal incidents with guns, so why would you expect them to report on minor lawful use?

Since my bias is pro gun, I guess my bias is true but to deny the media's anti-gun bias is being willfully naive. Days, weeks, months and years of rehashing of mass shootings with false or exaggerated narratives shows the medias anti-gun bias. Very little if any news about the CDC's burying their study of privately held firearms preventing crimes is another example of their agenda driven anti-gun bias. https://capitalresearch.org/article/why-...tatistics/

When the national news decides to promote only one side of a very divisive political argument using the false premise of " yea or nay national news worthy", is what we call propaganda driven media. That is the very essence of bias. Under that logic, a mass shooting should only be local news worthy.

stanc Wrote:They don't generally report on minor criminal incidents with guns, so why would you expect them to report on minor lawful use?
A possible mass shooting being stopped by two concealed carry licensed holders is not a minor criminal incident since the national debate on guns has sunk so low as to repealing the 2nd Amend.

Getting all the news and information is vitally important for decision making. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wYi_hq2p1Ac

stanc is right you wont see cnn msn nbc cbs abc etc report minor reports as it does not fit their narrative, There has only been 242 homicides in chicago so far this year and not a word out of them. https://graphics.suntimes.com/homicides/

Do you believe the national media does not have an anti-gun "agenda" or anti-conservative bias? Do you think they are really unbiased and have no agenda?

Please cite said "false or exaggerated" narratives.

First, I don't know why anyone would consider 20-year-old surveys especially noteworthy solely for the fact that they were never released.

Second, the CDC surveys had no apparent relevance to the issue of mass shootings.

Third, the CDC surveys were estimates, NOT provable facts.

Fourth, the CDC surveys were seriously flawed. See https://marginalrevolution.com/marginalr...vents.html and https://twitter.com/RAVerBruggen/status/...0573913089

That's just silly. People throughout the country would want to know about a mass shooting at a concert in Las Vegas. Few people outside of Backwater, Washington care about a carjacker being killed there.

montana Wrote:A possible mass shooting being stopped by two concealed carry licensed holders is not a minor criminal incident...
Sure it is. The idea that it was a "possible mass shooting" is unprovable speculation obviously meant to exaggerate the importance of the event. (The very type of "propaganda" that you accuse the media of doing.) It was attempted carjacking, a minor crime that would only get attention on the Evening News if the victim was someone like Kim Kardashian on her way to the White House to seek a Presidential pardon for a drug dealer.

montana Wrote:Getting all the news and information is vitally important for decision making.
Certainly. But it's unreasonable to expect the national news programs to cover everything that happens in every part of the country. There simply is not enough time. The nightly news is packed into a half-hour time slot, of which 10 minutes is taken up by commercials.

https://www.hawaii.edu/powerkills/20TH.HTM Just like this study has never been mentioned by the ant-gun media, or this http://www.israelnationalnews.com/Articl...aspx/21714
You forget the study was done to promote gun-control but the findings didn't support that narrative so it was buried.

https://heyjackass.com/ Yet these deaths are not played over and over proving the failure of restrictive gun control or this http://dailycaller.com/2018/02/19/knives...tatistics/

The witness on the scene had a different opinion: Zamora Quote:
(Later on, he heard gunshots and watched Day die. According to Zamora, based on the assailant’s behavior, he believes, that he would have shot more people.)

The fact that most to all coverage occurs following mass shootings is both ineffective and biased. This style of communication has no direct benefit to the country, and promotes a streamlined nation that discourages free expression of ideas and diverse thinking.

Unfortunately, none of that clearly tells me what are the "false or exaggerated" narratives you mentioned. (And I refuse to watch any #&@% "Louder with Chowder" vids. The guy is an obnoxious, loud-mouthed moron.)

No, I did not forget that some people claim the CDC reports (which were surveys, not studies) were "buried."

The point is, the CDC surveys were flawed, so they should not have been released. (IMO, they should not have been done, since the CDC should stay out of the gun control debate.)

Meh. Just because he believes it, does not make it fact. It's still unprovable speculation.

There is no reason for the national news to cover each murder case in Chicago, because those stories are of little or no interest to the rest of the nation

Those are local stories, covered by Chicago news outlets. For example, the CBS station in Chicago: https://chicago.cbslocal.com/search/?q=murder

I think that what some folks perceive as "anti-gun bias" is more likely the result of a "pro-sensationalism" approach to news reporting that encompasses all topics, not just guns.

Having worked with the media very frequently I can tell you that they absolutely DO have bias. They are people with opinions and not very many are good at not allowing that bias to spill into their work. You should not be able to tell by reporting where their position is, yet I can tell you where they stand. It is not "percieved" it is real and you are correct, it happens with most topics.

But stanc 242 homicides in a city that has the tight gun control laws so far this year, do you not think that is a story or does it not fit your narrative as an anti gunner just like the main press.

That's different than what you said in your first post. Sure, I think the large number of murders despite the gun control laws would be a story with nationwide relevance.

So you agree it is a big story but the mindless idiots at cnn msm etc still will still not cover it, As for the comment about you being anti gun with the way you post and what you post that is how you come across.
