New grendel, wont fire

Bullets will jam a long way into lands before they keep a round from seating, and the OAL of the cartridge is OK with that bullet.

Not likely the bullet being too long guys!

You need some other cartridges.

Jamie, do you have some factory ammo with Lapua brass to try, or some reloads?

What other ammo should I buy to try? what works in everything? Or someone mail me some reloads or something? I really really appreciate the help all!

If you can get over here, I can hook you up with some trial ammo. I have AA, BH, wolf & Hornady on hand.

Thanks Bill, I did not know that.

Some target guys slam bullets .020 or more into the lands, so that cartridge length shouldn't be an issue.

I think the Hornady is simply max size and he has a minimum chamber.

I had forgotten where he was, I was thinking he was up north.

Call Bill Alexander tomorrow and talk with him. I can send you a couple of pieces of Lapua brass, and you can see if the bolt will close, but that won't help much otherwise. I could send you a couple pieces of different loaded ammo, but that has to ship UPS ground and will take 3-4 days.

Bill can tell you if all the barrels are stamped or not.

Bummer.

This is kinda throwing money at the problem, but you might consider getting some of AA’s ammo FedEx-ed from AA or Midway. Even a box of Wolf would probably answer the question. If you can find any Hornady locally, look for a different lot number (found on the stick-on label on the back, below the bullet drop data)

I can tell you that is not an AA brake!

I can see from the diameter behind the gas block that this is not one of mine, diameter is too long and transition angles are wrong.

Bloody "match" chamber I note! whatever that may be.

I am not sure if I am pissed off with this gibberish yet. The whole idea of the Grendel was a simple single chamber that would do most everything reasonably well. But NOO we have "experts" out there who have to alter stuff but are clueless what they are doing. Must be the only industry in the world who cannot master round peg in round hole. Culmination is we f%$k the customers over, what a superb plan!!! hey if we piss off enough shooters they will take up golf and the industry can shut.

Call next week and I will see if I can get this sorted out for you. You will need to pick up the shipping costs but if the barrel is ok then it might just be a few thou short.

Hi Bill. If you are sure this is NOT one of your barrels, then I have a problem with the seller, have you sold any barrels to Cloes Combat Firearms in Washington state in this past year? At this point who knows what else they lied about and I may try to get my money back and start over. Ill give ya a call tomorrow then see where to go from there. I did just get off the phone with one of the guys from CCF, and they claim it works fine, but they only use AA ammo.

Thank you! I just want an accurate 6.5G!

Man, holding it up to the computer and looking at the ones on your website it looks the same to me, but you would know for sure.

a few more pics, and screwing around I took the round that was beat to death and pulled it, shoved just the case in and bolt wont close enough. Knew that, so, took a wood handled hammer and lightly tapped the back of the bolt to see how much it would take to get it seated, a couple good taps and it popped in place... Tried a clean case with no marks on it and did the same thing, still no marks on it, heck if I can tell where its binding, but it did go all the way in, its really tight alright, getting them out takes a few taps on the T handle. Wonder if I forced a few in there and fired them if it would 'wear in'?

Nope, its a brass issue. Tapping on the back is forming the brass enought to get it to seat.

That looks like the PWS logo(Primary Weapons Systems) on the brake

Don't keep forcing them in there. You're just asking to get one stuck and then tear the rim off the case or something.

That is a pretty sweet brake though. And, it is a PWS brake. It's a really good brake. I've seen them before (they're really popular over on AR15.com) and they work well.

I'm sure you could have the chamber reamed out and it would probably run fine. But, you shouldn't have too. Post up the information on that gunshop so we all know who to avoid. I'll have them boycotted (by all my shooting buddies) by the end of the week .... LOL.

Hope you get this fixed.

Deezil Wrote:these are factory hornady ammo, I dont have dies yet, was hoping to run a few boxes of factory ammo through it before having to spend more money on stuff. This upper has been fired, it had some unburnt powder in it, and a few wear marks, and black on the end of the barrel, I dont understand why it wont work for me.

DEZ:

It probably didn't work for who ever slapped it together and called it an Alexander Arms Grendel. They found it wouldn't work so traded it in or sold it to a wannabee tactical gunshop. The gunshop owners probably suspected it wasn't a AA Grendel and are only repeating what they were told by who ever sold it to them. This gives the owners a 'out' when their crap doesn't work.

Alexander is good enough to take a look providing you send it to him. Apparently it isn't a barrel sold by AA either so if Alexander will take it and try to get it working, consider yourself lucky.

You ought to take it back to the gunshop and demand your money back in total. If you do, I doubt they will take it back or at least will not return all of your money. They will say 'it worked when it left the shop'., or 'you took it apart so no returns'.

Send it to Alexander.

I hear ya LR, the shop claims they built it, and that they bought it straight from AA, the shop is in Bremerton, which is a whole days drive, they shipped it to me. But we will see what happens. I hate to send it to AA and spend more money on something that isnt what they claimed to be. On the phone yesterday they did say they would make it right, whatever that means I do not know.

I'm new to the Grendel game, but have been around AR's for a long time. I know a couple guys who do the Beowulf thing who have dealt with AA. If AA said they would make it right, send it in. They will treat you right. It will save you a lot of headaches, and they will let you know for sure what the problem is.
