Back in Feb I bought what was listed as a RRA 6.5 Grendel upper on Gunbroker. When I received it it turned out to be a SAOUD 6.5 (whatever that is). No other markings on it. I sent it back and was refunded my money. I decided to go with a known product so I ordered an AA upper from AA. I was told 2-4 weeks. GREAT!! That was on March 10. I called last week to check progress and was told 7-10 days. I called today and was told "by the end of the month". Are people afraid that if they say "6-8 weeks,etc." that they will loose the sale.
Can anybody tell me how long it really takes to get an upper once it is ordered?

Two issues. The first one is simply misrepresentation, whether intentional or ignorance based.
The second is an issue with small manufacturers, like AA. They are dependant on suppliers. They take what the suppliers tell them about being able to send ordered items, add some reasonable fudge factor, and then tell THEIR customers a time frame based on that.
Generally it works reasonably well, but if some critical part, like barrels nuts, for instance, doesn't show up when they are expected, everything grinds to a halt. Then you get the cascading promises of "soon", but without any real fixed guidelines.
Its compounded if you order anything that is the least bit out of the ordinary, because chances are than the supplies of that item are even smaller, and thus the order from the manufacturer to the supplier has less priority at the supplier.
I've seen people get uppers in 5 days and others who had to wait much longer periods. Its frustrating when you are in that second group!!
I, also, have a problem getting a barrel, been waiting 6 wks. Can't get a delivery date. Been told "suppose to ship beginning of the month but didn't say what month". Frustrating!
Anyone have an 18" med/light weight barrel, 1-8 twist, SS, reasonably priced, carbine length. Am I asking to much?

Check the classified ads, JWH sells some 18" SS barrels as fundraisers for the board. By all accounts, they are well made and shoot very well.

If you are interested, I have a JP CTR Upper that I'm willing to part with. It's a 22" mid-weight barrel with heatsink. It is a rifle length gas system. It shoots well but is a little heavy for hunting, so I recently bought an AA upper. Has about 500 rounds through it. Will take 20% off my invoice from JP.

Well, I sell bullets for reloading on the internet. About two months ago I ordered 30k 45 bullets and 30k .357 bullets from Zero Bullets. They told me it would be a couple weeks. SO, when customers called me asking when the bullets would be in stock I told them a couple weeks. It has been two months now and still no bullets. I have stopped guessing as to when they will show up. I feel bad for my customers that are still waiting and it makes me look bad. Maybe that is what is happening with AA.

Nice looking set-up. How does it shoot? Thanks for the offer but I'll have to pass, my goal is a light weight hunting rifle, I'm hoping to get a rifle under 8#s with scope.
It shoots about 3/4 MOA. Not phenomenal, but plenty good for most practical work. It may have been the prior scope.
An internal lends literally fell out. Have not done accuracy testing with the new scope.

Maybe if you told them what you just told us they would understand.

I waited a long time for Alexander Arms to get the barrel for my rifle. The hangup was that they couldn't sell me a rifle with the barrel I requested, until the barrel maker shipped them some. They offered all sorts of compromises, and were very generous with alternative pricing. Eventually, the barrel I wanted showed up, and my rifle arrived about 5 days later.
Trust me, it is worth the wait with Alexander...Really worth it. I used that rifle to win the next precision rifle match I entered. Those are sort of like sniper type matches for civilians. Ranges only go out to 600 yards, but the rifle worked fabulously.

Here is a word from a Grendel manufacturer. We quote lead times based on our best knowledge of supplies and forecast of supplies. We have continually ramped up orders for certain components in anticipation of orders but there are times just a simple parts like bolt will hold up delivery. We recently ordered 100+ barrels to help prevent shortage of barrels. They are from 3 different manufactures. One had them in 2 weeks - estimated 3 weeks, another estimated 12 weeks and shipped in 10 weeks, and another estimated 12 weeks and 18 weeks later - still no barrels! Another time we had 20 barrels in stock and expected them to last 2 weeks and they sold out in 3 days. Then we have 25 barrels in stock for going on 8 days and still have 20 barrels left. Wars have often been lost on plain, simple logistics. Supply and Demand is harder to calculate than one might expect. That is some of the reason for going with 3 different manufacturers. Now we have a receiver crunch. The $$$ in inventory get to be staggering - I know as I just completed inventory for tax purposes! And the state taxes us on inventory that is needed to maintain business - go figure!
I don't believe AA is trying to mislead anyone, they are a good company. I think we all (me guilty here, too) have a tendency to be too optimistic on lead times especially when the lead time depend on another supplier.  I hear the complaints all the time and am extremely sensitive to the issue. There have been plenty of times I have run a package special to the UPS depot at 8:30 PM to make sure it left that day yet (my wife isn't too happy when I do this as it takes a hour out of my family time to do it).
