one should think a clamp on gas block turned 90 degrees would solve the problem with hot gases coming out

It's hard to imagine how intense the pressure is inside a gun barrel.

I heard about an amateur gunsmith who was drilling a barrel for a target scope mount. Drilled too deep, into the rifling, said "oh well" and went ahead and tapped the hole for the screw. Mounted the scope and the first shot blew the screw out of the hole with enough force to eject the whole scope ring. Somehow the scope broke loose and landed 10 feet behind the shooter, he was lucky it went over his head.
Probably urban myth, who knows.

Another thing this "high-pressure hole" reminds me of is when I was in the Navy and they warned us about the dangers of superheated steam.
At high pressure, if a pipe got a pinhole the leaking steam was invisible and cut flesh like a razor. For example, if you waved your arm in front of you your hand might drop off. If you walked past a leak your top half could fall off like a character in a cartoon.
They taught that if you suspected a leak, wave a broomstick handle in front of you.

Many barrels are ported by EDM. This is a similar port, although closer to the breech.
The concerns are similar to suggesting you should not put your finger over the muzzle of a short pistol while shooting or over the cylinder gap.
Do you hold your 12" barreled Grendel with your left hand on the muzzle brake?
I don't see the problem.

I did show a photo of what happened when I camo taped the barrel.
It did burn a hole through.
It did not burn a hole through a carbon fiber handguard or a Schedule 40 handguard.
These had a clearance of about an inch.

Edit: I can see myself holding the gun where the forearm would be and carelessly getting a finger over the hole. That's the kind of luck I have sometimes.

The same as any AR15 with the same gas port length.
Do you think the BCG will hold back all the pressure?
Besides, this is a rifle length port which is 13" from the breech.
It is more similar to a ported barrel than you think. Even better than the group buy 12.7" barrels.
In fact I notice an EXTREME REDUCTION in muzzle rise when I shoot it uncovered.
