"We are in the process of destroying all firearms and accessories that are no longer for sale as a result of our February 28th policy change," a spokeswoman told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. "We are destroying the firearms in accordance with federal guidelines and regulations."
The rifles will be destroyed at the company's distribution centers and then recycled.

The mentally scarred customers and employees, "exposed to the horrors of such vile instruments of death" need immediate therapy. I suggest they remove all inventory out of every Dick's sporting goods store and replace it with sensory deprivation tanks. Zero stimulation dark tank meditation"on the essence and meaning of nothingness" will begin the long, arduous healing process of eradicating the horrid nightmares and memories of the AR-15.
The mental illness is snowballing down the hill at unbelievable rates in this nation. Dick's sporting goods destroying legal "inanimate objects" is a good example of mental illness at a higher level.
I read on another forum that Dicks is dissembling all of their AR15's and selling them as parts. They think the parts are worth more than what they paid for the AR15's.
I guess they would have to destroy the stripped lower. Very deceiving if that is what they are doing.
Never been to Dick's and now I never will. It's a shame since they just opened a new store in my area, now I drive by with my finger 'drawn' (usually it's pocket carry).
A local gun dealer had a very nice, very large custom sign made up for the front of their business that reads, "Still selling AR-15's . . . because we're not Dicks."
I wonder just how many in actual number and actually get destroyed and really just how much dick had in them? actual cost to the company. its a lost publicity stunt,,,,,already lost on the press
The gun stores around here probably owe Dick's a beer and sandwich. Ever since they announced they weren't selling ARs anymore our local shops can't get them fast enough.
