Home deliveries of knives bought online to be banned in UK

Where do you go next to focus on when you have some of the strictest gun laws?

Knives, the new guns.

Inspired by a school in the US, sporting goods stores in the UK are now carrying "Bucket O' Stones" for home defense purposes, with plans to expand their line of pick axe handles.

The International Criminals Guild has responded that they will not be switching from their preferred illegal firearms.

Guys:

Stan is right. Not specifically a 2A issue but the direct result of a nation that does not have a 2A. Precisely what the pro 2A supporters have been predicting.

So the thread will continue to be open to comments.

I would particularly like to know if any rock thrower out there has figured out what size and type of rock gives the most advantage in terms of accuracy and lethality.

Also why anyone would buy a bucket of rocks when all they need to do is go to a river and police up a bucket of rocks?

I will also predict that once people see the limitations of their throwing arm, they will naturally progress to using a sling to give them higher velocity and more stand off. And then slings will be banned.

Not once does it appear that the powers to be in the UK seem interested in figuring out the causes of such violence. Kind of like right here!

Anyway, lets see where this thread goes for now.

Regarding sources of stones, I am under the impression that one of the reasons France and other European countries started using cement & asphalt for pavement was to keep peasants from pulling up pavement blocks to use as weapons against the gendarmes.

I also fully concur with LR1955 -- We must address the causes of violence. Lame attempts to curb by confiscating weapons and potential weapons lead only to conditions where the 2A is truly needed.

The truth is violence will never stop. It is a dangerous world and there will always be violence. There will always be people in societies who will pray upon others and wishful thinking will not change this reality. People in power will never change this reality no matter what laws they push. Disarm the people in a society and they are at the mercy of the people in government and criminals who have not been disarmed. Disarm a country and they are at the mercy of governments that have not been disarmed. Idealism, beliefs and delusional fantasy's of delusional people will not change this reality. Our founding fathers were not delusional people and understood this basic concept and truth of division of power, hence the Second Amendment.

That's what I was thinking - it certainly can be a 2A issue, and goes to show that a firearms ban will not stop the attacks. We have all kinds of misinformed people in this country that believe banning guns will stop the violence.

The UK is not having violence? Certainly, they are - they're having a knife issue and a stabbing issue, and it's grown to the proportions that they're talking about banning the home deliveries of knives. Pretty serious measure to have to come to, and even that won't stop the attacks or the violence.

I directly see it as our 2A issue, right here in this country - the gun-grabbers want guns gone, and swear up and down that the violence will stop, here. We know it won't, and if they got their way, banned all firearms...

Their next step will be a knife ban, or a rental truck ban, or pressure cooker ban, or baseball bat ban - whatever the bad guys pick up next.

Give them an inch - and they won't stop until all guns are gone, and just start on their next item on their list.

Think they wouldn't try that?...

The cause of violence in the UK is simple to explain. For much of history, the island was invaded and taken over every few hundred years. It's been over a thousand years since the last invasion, but it has happened again. The English have no one to blame but themselves since they invited the invaders in.

I completely agree on that...

Just sad, that's us in 40 years if we follow the extreme anti-gun route.

Wouldn't the optimum rock size, shape, and weight depend upon the thrower's strength, skill, and hand size?

Maybe they lack the time or inclination to go searching for a river with suitable rocks?

Its not just knives. Acid is also being used over here. Just think about that for a second...

We also had a version of the 2A but somehow we lost it. Again think about that...

There are a number of causes of shootings. Most causes are quite well known and understood; a few are unknown.

No one (other than conspiracy theorists Rolleyes ) seems to know why the Las Vegas shooter did his indiscriminate slaughter.

The YouTube shooter apparently was retaliating for company actions that pretty much wiped out her financial income.

In both cases, the shooter was able to legally buy the gun(s), and it's very unlikely the acts could've been prevented.

At least, not without resorting to draconian measures which would violate other Constitutional rights...

Totally agree.

montana Wrote:Disarm a country and they are at the mercy of governments that have not been disarmed.
That was certainly possible way back in the days when soldiers provided their own weapons, but it seems extremely unlikely now.

To disarm "a country" would require disarming its armed forces. Can you cite any case(s) in modern history wherein a Western nation's armed forces were disarmed by their government?

montana Wrote:Our founding fathers were not delusional people and understood this basic concept and truth of division of power, hence the Second Amendment.
I wish people would be much more careful about invoking "the Founding Fathers" as if they were of one mind about everything.

In fact, they were divided on many, if not most, issues. Some were in favor of slavery; others were opposed.

Some thought that only landed, white males should have rights; others thought that all adults, regardless of race, sex, or property status, should have rights.

Some thought that there was no need to even have a Bill of Rights. And some really wanted a strong central government (see Federalism and anti-Federalism).

True.

False. At least, I've never heard any of them claim that their proposals would address anything but gun violence.

True.

There's a huuuuuge flaw with your "simple explanation": On more than one occasion, members of what is now the UK have waged war amongst themselves.

StoneHendge Wrote:The English have no one to blame but themselves since they invited the invaders in.
Self-contradictory statement. Invitees are, by definition, not invaders.
