"Why do you need an AR15?"
The recent killing spree in Sutherland Springs was far worse than the Florida shooting. The anti gun media never talks about it, why? The murderer was stopped by an AR-15.

The media talked about it plenty at the time. Example: https://www.cnn.com/2017/11/05/us/texas-...index.html

As with any other news story, media coverage switches to the most recent event, which in this case is the Florida shooting.

However, the killer was not "stopped" until after his shooting rampage and had left the church. That's like closing the barn door after the horses have escaped.

But, it does illustrate my point about an AR15 not likely being to hand when needed. None of the churchgoers had one with them.

The sentence in Miller to which you are referring is only part of the notes on the history of militias; it is not a statement of what is required by law.
The requirement to appear for duty "with a weapon of his own procurement" was eliminated when the Militia Act of 1903 superseded earlier versions.

Seek professional help from a counselor. You can change if you are willing to explore the deeper meaning behind your argumentative nature. It is possible that you lack confidence and a sense of self-worth, and seek it through aggression and arguments; counseling can help you resolve this. When you begin to feel true confidence, the need for arguments and conflict will start to abate. Everyone uses some type of defense mechanism to protect themselves emotionally, so there’s nothing wrong with this; the problem is that your defense mechanism is an outdated one that probably served you well in the distant past. The challenge is in unlearning this old defense mechanism and replacing it with a new, constructive one.

 None of the above contradicts anything I've said. (Assuming that was the reason you posted all those links.)

Thanks, I'm good. But if you get so upset over discussing these topics, maybe you should take your own advice.
Let's reset this discussion and go back to the original post.

I learned some interesting things from the previous discussion, but let's let that rest, and try a different tack.

After every mass shooting, would-be gun banners demand: "Why do you need an AR15?"

I think it would be useful for us AR15 owners to have a short answer ready. An answer that is reasonable, respectable, that hopes to win the uncommitted over to our way of thinking.

Pretend, for the sake of argument, that the questioner is actually sincere, and merits a sincere, respectful answer in return. What would you answer, in as few words as possible?

My first draft: "Because it is the most modern and effective tool for the defense of my home and loved ones."

Second draft: "Same reason people use cars instead of a horse and buggy. It is the most modern and effective tool for home defense."

If it's true that we are here to help others, then what exactly are the others here for?

I think it's a very bad idea to validate the question by giving any reason to "need" an AR15, because it may help open the door to legislation requiring gun buyers to demonstrate a need acceptable to the government. As an example, look at the situation in many parts of California, where one must prove a valid need in order to obtain a CCW permit.

My proposed response: "This is America, not the Soviet Union. People are not required to justify buying an AR15 on the basis of need."
Stan, that is an excellent point. Perhaps the wisest course is to turn the question on its head to get to the heart of the matter. Jesus often used that method of argumentation. Cool

That was suppose to be a joke Stan. I still dig you. Smile

I apologize if you took it any other way. Not the first time my post has flown back into my face. I didn't think anyone would take a SNL skit seriously.
Once again my humble apology.

I was responding to why we need an AR-15, it had nothing to do with you.

Stan, You can argue each side of the debate equally well. Are you going to tell us what you really believe?

Riiiiight. I suppose you have some oceanfront property in Montana that you want me to buy, too? Wink
stanc Wrote:Riiiiight. I suppose you have some oceanfront property in Montana that you want me to buy, too? Wink

Why yes I do! I'll send you some brochures.
Let it go guys. Lets' plow forward upon checking for mental health issues before any gun or ammo purchase is made,,, show, store,,, or online. Let's figure this out.

This could be the stellar way to do this. ? Team effort.

Okay. Since you gave no reason for posting the links, and that post immediately followed mine, it appeared that you may have been responding to me.

I have to say, some of those links do not support a "need" for an AR15, though. In one, a pistol was used to fend off intruders; in another, a double-barrel shotgun was more than adequate; and in another, the guy with an AR15 couldn't get it loaded before confronting intruders.
Check back to post 216-217.... Then re check it- over and over. Whats in the thought process ? Maybe visit a doctor. for a checkup.... It's normal to get a checkup.

You monkeys keep me diverted. Let's re- focus dudes.

Your question is a non sequitur. I don't operate on belief. I'm also not arguing either side of the debate; I'm just giving my thoughts and opinions on it.
