do I see "posess" in the first part and then again in the second? it doesn't work. by going for a full out ban, they will fail. no, they will go for a bite like bumpstocks (with fine print) and maybe some large magazines.

Proposed by U.S. Rep. David N. Cicilline, D-RI, and joined by 164 co-sponsors from his party, H.R.5087, would not only recycle the expired federal ban on “assault weapons” but greatly expand its scope. The lawmaker argues it is needed to end the “carnage” on America’s streets.

The bill, one of the most ambitious bans proposed in recent years, would bar the importation, production, or transfer of 205 firearms by name to include a myriad of semi-auto AR-15 and AK-47 variants.

Going past that, any semi-auto rifle with a detachable magazine and any “military-style feature” such as a barrel shroud, pistol grip or threaded barrel, would be caught in the net.

Additionally, a semi-auto shotgun with any feature or the capability to hold more than five shells would be forbidden.

Rifles, other than .22s, with an internal magazine capable of holding more than 10-rounds, would be banned.

Pistols affected would include any with a threaded barrel or a magazine well located in any spot except the grip.

All belt-fed semi-automatic firearms, typically expensive niche guns popular with collectors but rarely used in crime, would be outlawed.

The bill also includes language to ban bump stocks, and detachable magazines capable of holding more than 10 rounds.

It would authorize federal funding through Byrne grants for “buy back” programs to purchase unwanted newly classified assault weapons and magazines from the public.

It's been drafted solely as a political statement.
Won't even reach the floor of the House.
A big fat nothing.

Remember John Hinkley who shot President Reagan supposedly bought a cheap 22 LR revolver (referred to as a Saturday night Special) in Texas. The poor mentally ill person who’s been released fro jail! As soon as the centerfire rifles are gone there will be someone who uses a 22 rimfire and they’ll use that excuse to get the rimfire guns to.

It makes no difference the libs are after power and control. The second amendment keeps them from completeing there true goals.

The only way we keep our freedoms is to beat them at the ballot box!

Such a bill was almost a necessity on their side of the aisle, they had to so something so they could blame the rest of us for universally being the bad guys! They also know that if they throw enough balls of mud at the wall, a little of it sticks each time. Sooner or later, the whole thing will stick. Then we will have a problem. All it takes is the right disaster - something that generates so much public outcry that no one would stand up to it. Remember the Lindberg kidnapping - kidnapping was not a significant offense before that. Emotion always outruns logic and facts on the short term.

Good point justjohn

Probably a bad idea to make any law that will be ignored.

The single, most important thing I did in high school was read Julius Caesar. When addressing the crowd after Caesar's murder, Brutus attempts to use logic and fact to justify his actions. Mark Antony appeals to the crowds emotions. Guess who came out on top? Most people are controlled by their emotions. Intellect and facts are of no consequence. This is why I fear the mob.

Here's a link to the whole bill. Looks like what Feinstein tried a couple of years ago https://www.scribd.com/document/3724...18#from_eembed

Also, Kudos to Mark, they mention Precision Firearms by name...

This is just grandstanding for their looney supporters. If they actually cared they'd ban no-arrest zones and gun free zones. They would reject no child left behind nonsense. Those progressive policies are what created the FL shooter.

Yet again another stab at the War on Guns, or Drugs, or switch blade knives, or Shine, or any other object the Government feels we need to be protected against. Having now passed the 3 quarter mark I feel I've seen it all and can honestly say that all those laws have had NO, I repeat no, effect on the citizens of the country in curtailing how they act. Morals cannot be legislated.
Visit most any street corner and you can buy whatever your heart desires and it's often being sold by an illegal alien. Free enterprise is alive and well. Watch TV and see just how Shine is made, and where's the law? Most likely at home watching right along with you.

PS if they ever win any of these wars it will put about half of the Government out of work and definitely shut down the CIA, for lack of operating funds.

Someone, please, go find the stat's!!! How many of these kids that are determined to shoot up their world are ( were? ) also addicted to violent video games!!!, games like "Grandtheft Auto" and the like where killing and mayhem are the core value of the whole thought process? How many of them were never afforded any correctional discipline ( aka - a paddling ) for their behavior when they got out of line as youngsters? How many of 'em have shown a liking for violence since they were very young, such as skinning the neighbors cat, while it screamed? I suspect that there are a lot of commonalities, but to several of the points above, society says "OH! Poor kid, they will outgrow it" or some such nonsense.

It ain't our side, folks, that is screwed up! But we are an easy target because we are identifyable ( because of our chosen tools ( toys?). As long as they can blame us, they don't have to take the blame, themselves! If we are to be determined to be guilty until we can prove our selves innocent ( what Constitution ! ) then we need to shout from the rooftops that the core problems, for the most part, started in the home of those kids long before they pulled the triggers.

Their families piled up the kindling, society lit the match and their peers took the hit and we will pay the price - unless we can shout louder than they do.

I don't always agree with the NRA and I am sick of the editorializing of the NGOA and the others, but thank God they are here at this moment in time. Please, if you can, support 'em all!

So, would you ban video games?

just_john Wrote:It ain't our side, folks, that is screwed up!
Welllllll...that's not exactly true. It is screwed-up gun owners who have been doing these shootings.

Personal opinion: if something can be ban'ed, then anything can be banned. HOWEVER, I do believe that this genre of mentally absorbing, habit-forming video gaming badly needs to be de-emphasized in society. And, yes, we all know or have known some really screwed up gun owners. But I have never known one that went on a shooting spree.

Wayne Nance, the worst serial killer in Montana history, "whom I grew up with" was cruel to animals. By the way he was stopped by a good guy with a gun. This is a parenting problem in my opinion. Good parents engage with their kids and prohibit or discourage bad habits, gratuitous violence, a respect for others, a respect for all life and especially a respect for themselves. Drinking, smoking, irresponsible sexual habits, gluttony, etc can also be linked to poor parenting. My kids grew up with the new socialist norm in the public school systems, but were never effected by it. I talked with my kids every night about every subject or problem brought up that day. They learned early there were rewards and punishments for life choices. I taught them how to engage in the world they had to live in, but also set a standard for living for themselves they could live by. Blaming all gun owners is like blaming all automobile owners for drunk driving deaths. Just the same as blaming all video games is not the answer. When indifferent or lazy parents expect the schools or society to raise their kids, it will be a crap game of results. Expecting an immoral society to fix an immoral problem is a perfect definition of insanity. Rant over.

Whether or not you have personally known one, is beside the point.
