Actually the rate of fire was to the point even though it was cool today I fired most of the shots with a mirage from the heat off the barrel.
The load I used is a widely published load from the 60s for M1 Garand which I knew to be accurate the only thing that is modernized is the projectile Swampy's JLKs have usually worked in every .22 to .30 cal I have tried when pushed at the right speed for the twist.
This 721 when I gaged her she was only showing a 1 at the muzzle and a 1 in the throat so even though she is 61yrs old she has been shot little since I bought her three years ago. She shoots was well as the Remmy 700 PSS I used to own. Now to step her out to the Long line for giggles
Funny thing is about 6 mo ago I was considering putting a new Krieger 1-12 twist barrel in her in order to have a heavy barrel. now I'm not sure I need the heavy barrel

Any way fired several strings of 10 shots each at 100 yds results for the 47.0 grs produced a consistant 3/4" (measured outside to outside) for ten shots off the bench the other loading produced a clean 1" even measured the same way for 10 shots each. the barrel was way warmed up outta that old bolt gun. Funny thing is this weapon has NO modifaction since the day it left Remington with the factory 22" barrel. Just wish the Grendel bolt barrel combo I received would hold as well. needless to say I was pleased with the old 61 year old girl she went through 200 rounds with heated barrel holding sub -MOA all day. My 13 year old crawled behind her and had the same results after a bit of coaching and holds and trigger squeeze.

I have always contended that you may not get that magical (and somewhat mythical) 1/2 minute consistency with a .30 caliber (.308 or 30-06) but I bet you will get a very consistent 3/4 to 1 MOA with them given a good bullet. In fact, you could go down to 44 grains of what ever powder you were using, or most any powder that is safe for the cartridge, and any primer / brass -- or go to 48 grains and the results would be the same.
Gas guns and the bets are off but a decent .30 caliber match grade gas gun is more forgiving than any other caliber I have found.
ER Shaw seems to make their name on producing hunting quality barrels. Nothing on their web site leads me to believe they want to make any sort of match grade barrel.
I still contend that if your Grendel will not shoot when using a 120 SMK and any safe load of powder, the barrel is probably lousy.
Some Shaws seem to shoot well but mostly the guys saying so don't shoot them past 100 or if they do, not enough for the results to be accurate.
LW barrels are pretty good for the price. Not a Krieger but you will notice them to be significantly more dependable than a Shaw.

Thanxs for the feed back I just wanted to bragg on the old Remmy as she should not have held such performance I really was expecting 1-1/2 MOA to 3MOA. I have fired differant loadings in her and she will not hold this well it REALLY like the 174s (JLKs) at 47 gr of 4064.
While we was at the range my son let me know that he desires and reallllly likes my Grendel but seen a AR in 16" configuration and as we discussed on other occassions ER Shaw is for the masses not match shooting (can some be used for this sure). The post was not a slam but pointing out that there are many Remmy barrels that will not Hold a group sometimes ya get a winner. There are Folks on here getting excellant results with ER Shaw products, just not me (haha) and yes they make a good product for the money.
Point is the boy wants me to cut down the ER Shaw from 24 to 16 for him and me get a differant barrel so we can both shoot Grendels. He like the 06 but contended the Grendel is more comfortable during long strings and I just wanted to bragg on the rifle and that I have a load that it really likes. The reason I singled out the manufacter on the grendel is in case some thought I had a Shilen 24" combo
on another note the exact same load for the 06 in a M1 that I had built up years ago with a Krieger and matching all componets would at best produce 2 MOA and not stay competitive with the mouse guns. Even the 14 I had playing about with accepted NRA loading that was considered accurate for the sport would not come close to the performance I get with the remington in that pencil barreled configuration once properly fouled.
Cold Bore bets are off as I have not played with Cold Bore in her
ER Shaw makes an OK barrel. But, if you are shooting for accuracy, then you need to trade up on that barrel. I'd shoot that one out and then when you change your barrel, go with a better quality barrel. The barrel and trigger are the two components that I would put my money into to get decent accuracy.
