I've shot hogs with 95 grain Vmax, and they work fine. the problem is the Vmax's have to be seated very short (2.15or 2.16 OAL) to chamber properly. This is because of the weird profile (ogive). Are there any light 6.5 varmint rounds to try?

I haven't shot 'em, but what about the Barnes 100 TTSX?

Nosler Ballistic tips have always worked well for me.
The 95 VMAX is a short bullet, so you don't really lose much powder space or performance because of the ogive design compared to the heavier bullets that needs to be loaded short.

The speer TNT bullet is a varmint bullet, and AA has reloading data for it.
123AMAX is my new favorite!
I must agree that the 95 vmax is such a small bullet that it shouldn't matter how deep you shove it in there. If you aren't getting the velocity you were hoping for try some faster powder. Try some benchmark or Reloader 7.
Agreed, 123 AMAX will tear them up.
I use 129 SST Hornady...... not lost one yet. Bang flop is critical as we hunt a lot of fence lines we don't have permission to cross. Last one, the spine, at the neck, was completely severed.

123 amax over tac works well for me also
I'm a big fan of the Hornady 123 Amax as you can see. Drops good size hogs in their tracks but it is devastating on piglets. Makes them look like they have been hit with a HE round. Not a fan of shooting piglets but the land owner wants them gone.

Sorry about the late post. I hate being late to a party, but I just found out that we were back up and running.

I used Barnes 100gr TTSX on this Hog and it was DRT.

I used 30.5 gr H335 I hit it a few inches behind the shoulder and kind of high. You can see the exit wound in the picture. The shot was about 125 or 150 yards.
On the last hog trip I loaded with Barnes 120gr TSX bullets out of a 22" barrel. Bang, flop, dead.
In about 2 weeks, I'm going with a 16" upper (lighter) and since the velocity will be lower, I opted for the 120gr TTSX. In retrospect, I should have gone with the lighter 100gr TTSX, but I think these will do fine.
A buddy just got back from a night time nightvision-equipped hog hunting trip in Texas and he said that they were using .556 ARs with great effect, so any Grendel load should be fine on hogs.
I'm also going to southern California, so lead bullets are out.

I have found that I can get the same results from 28 grains of AA2230 as some are getting with 30-31 grains of h335. I have yet to try some more powder in the case but I am pretty sure that I could probably safely beat h335 velocities. Im not sure about accuracy though.
