Ok fella's got a question.
Went to lap and bed a barrel today and noticed I had bought the purple locktight and not the blue 242 locktight.
Can the purple locktight be used to bed the barrel are do I need to exchange for the blue 242 locktight?
The locktight I have is labled 222 purple low strengh.
Thanks for any advice or info.

It would be better than nothing, but not nearly as good as blue, and worlds away from red if your goal is for the barrel to hold still.
I realize this is beyond obvious. I doubt too many have used purple to do bedding for you to get a better answer.

Thanks I had read before to use blue 242 but didnt relize until I went to bed the barrel I had somehow bought the purple by mistake, will be headed to the store to exchange for the red,
I want to have it as stiff and tight as I can get it.

Red Loctite requires a localized heat greater than 550 degrees F remove.

I have heard friends say that a delta T of 550 is no problem if you first cool then heat when you want to swap a barrel that has been secured with red loctite. I can't vouch for it personally, but probably someone can confirm or deny in this cast of characters that is the hoarde for sure.

i have heard of people using blue loctite before but not the red! i would do more research on this first.

I agree. A.A. Recommended a specific blue Loctite. There are many blue loctites out there, each with a specific purpose. I'm sure someone will chime in on the recommended one.

Loctite 242-or 243, which ever says -surface insensitive. I use Permatex 24300 surface insensitive- same as Loctite.
Don't use the red!

The surface insensitive is the 243.

That glue won't be much help if it loses strength when the barrel warms up.
Just throwing it out there...You could assemble it as spec with grease instead of glue an see how it shoots. You may find it shoots fine, especially if it's a tight fit like these better barrels and receivers are.
