270WSM at a Mile

Finally got a chance to start to push the 270WSM out into some ELR shooting today. Once again, North Springs never fails to show us a good time. I Really can't say enough about the facility and especially the staff. Really great guys who are more than happy to let us have a good time.

It took me a few shots to realize that my windage was clear off, but after getting it adjusted the mile really wasn't too bad! Including my first several misses with the wind dialed out in no mans land, I went 3/10 on the 24" gong. Once I was on, I went 3/5.





Had a few other guys out there too that did pretty well. 4 of the impacts were from a buddy shooting the Ruger RPR in 6.5 Creedmoor, and a couple were from another friend shooting a Desert Tech in 6.5 Creedmoor as well. I was really impressed with the RPR, he was able to get on with shots 2 and 3 before missing a couple then getting back on.

My friend shooting the DT just put a used Razor gen2 on and we found out it has some pretty severe tracking issues, but he was still able to make contact a couple if times. It'll be sent off to vortex here shortly.

Also had another friend shooting a .308 that danced all around it, but was never quite able to make contact. I was still really impressed considering he had to pick spots up on the hillside for his holdover, then completely trust us as spotters to guide him in.

All in all, it was a damn good day to be out slinging lead!

Very good shooting! I've only made it out to 1000yds. I'm amazed how much a little breeze will push a bullet.

Yeah, North Springs is truly one of a kind. I learn something new about the place and opportunities every time I got there, and I've been going there regularly since March of 2012.

Where are you shooting the mile gong from, the Barnes Bullets position? That looks like the target is over up Buffalo Canyon.

Thanks guys, it really was a blast out there. I Love trying to push the envelope with different cartridges, which is what has driven me to push even the Grendel out to a mile.

We were set up at the Barnes building and shooting northwest, to the west of buffalo canyon. They have the huge white backer that is 1500 meters (1640 yards). They have a 24" gong at 1500 yards below and right of the big backer, a small coffin gong at 1640 just to the left of the backer, then the 1760 is above the backer and to the right.

I actually went there again today to help spot at a PRS shoot going on there, and saw a few more targets that I never knew about up buffalo canyon. One was left of the buffalo at 950 yards, and one to the right at close to 900 if I remember right

Yeah that Ruger RPR in the creedmoor is a nice gun for 1200-1400.00 and they are making premium barrels for it already that takes the stock accuracy up another notch. The .308 and .243 are hit an miss with the stock barrel.
