Last month my boss made everyone sign a "no drugs, no alcohol and no guns at work policy" paper. On the other hand, I know where in the office he keeps a .45 marlin carbine stashed. So..

6 months ago our physicians sold out to a "group". They now have a "No Firearms" sign on the door. The last time I was there I wore my "I support the 2nd Amendment" shirt. There were about 6 people in the waiting room, everyone of them commented on my T-shirt. The first was a lady in her 70's who gave me a big thumbs up when I turned around from the receptionist.

Drift-Keep yours in the glovebox of vehicle. Learn sprinting, run fast. Become a First responder- But--- don't be an accidental hero---- think things thru. Jail time Sucks...
We need a safe, yet lethal response , within our country..... to deal with these shootings. Arm ALL, the citizens is too easy to bring in all the problems,. that would show up . Any retired soldiers have an idea or 10 ? Past history? Drift, I'd find a new boss....

The local news here in Tampa has reported that the sheriff's in Brevard and Marion County are encouraging people with CCW to start carry if they are not. Also if they don't have CCW then they should get it. They also said that sheriffs in New York and Kentucky were doing the same.
Yes, when seconds count they are only minutes away....

For places where no guns are allowed keep a knife on you and be mentally prepared to use it. For myself i used to have my ccl but have stopped carrying due to increasing number of places that don't allow it and my comfort with a knife.
Still have my 870 SP Marine Magnum in the trunk though I keep it loaded with #4 lead bird shot so it wont go though walls.

Many companies have a "no weapons at work" policy. It's a liability for them if they allow it. My employer has one but I carry my XDS 45 every day. There have been times I have had to leave it home or locked in the truck due to where I have had to work (prisons, schools, etc). Other than those two places, I usually have it with me at all times when I'm out of my house.
The "no firearms" signs on businesses here in NY haven't really been a problem. I don't think I've ever seen one.

the only gun free zones we need would be defined as a place to get a gun "free" of charge. of course it would need to come with proper background check, ammo and plenty of range and practice time.

Gun free zones are not the problem in this country but the people themselves. Carrying a firearm should be an encouraged obligation and considered an honorable, respectable practice by any able bodied adult. Morality, civic duty and responsibility should be taught and encouraged from child hood to adulthood. After any attempted shooting the media should be reporting on how many citizens were carrying and a synopsis of the tactics implemented to evaluate the situation both pro and con for further public education. If there were no citizens who were armed there should be media pieces asking why were so many citizens irresponsibly unarmed not spewing more anti gun propaganda pieces showing the evils of inanimate objects and the need for further constitutional restrictions. Self determination and freedom have become a forgotten concept for too many in this country. Gun free zones are just a symptom of the sickness not the problem.

CusttomCutter. When I got my CCW permit in Fla in the last century, physicians offices were on of the places that firearms were one of the places guns were forbidden. Maybe 10 years ago I saw the law had changed to allow physicians to carry in their place of business. By a coincidence I was looking up the rules a coupe of weeks ago and could find no statuet forbidding firearms in a dr office. It still may be there, I just couldn't fnid it if it was.
And I'm pretty sure in Fla that a sign on the door asking you not to carry does not make it illegal to carry in that establishment. But if they ask you to leave and and you stay, then you are trespassing with a firearm.

I make it a point to know whether "Gun Free Zones/No Firearms" are backed by law or merely some companies internal policy. I generally avoid patronage of both but where that is not possible I usually ignore the policy postings and make a conscious decision about those backed by law. I have no reason to go onto school properties so that is not an issue for me but I do use U. S. Postal services. If a long wait at the Post Office cannot be avoided I usually disarm, if it looks like a five minute or less in and out I don't. Most medical facilities have gun free policies posted. I ignore them if I'm visiting someone and obey them if I'm there for some or other personal medical issue.

Depending on which state you are in, doing as you describe obviously will jeopardize one's conceal carry permit. Here in NM, any hospital is considered an automatic no-go zone, ostensibly because a hospital is likely to have a mental health care unit. (This does not include a Dr's practice, if it is not within a hospital). Agree or not, bringing a weapon into an area where mentally unstable people are likely to be sounds like a bad idea. Further, the force of law is behind any and every owner of private property that posts a "No Guns Allowed" notice or verbally informs you of the same. I suppose it comes down to what you consider to be acceptable risks where it applies to you possibly losing your permit. I have told all my friends before, "I have the luck of the Irish ... All of it bad.". In other words, I know that on the day where my shirt or vest rides up and reveals my firearm, it would be while in a prohibited area and the hard-cased DPS weeny is going to be there to see it. My vehicle contains a secure locking gun compartment, should I need to enter such an establishment. These can be bought at any LGS or online for under $50. Sure, it's sometimes a pain, but it simplifies the choices when I find myself needing to visit a hospital or pickup my grandkids from school.

Never send pilgrims into the wild without someone riding shotgun. We know that mental patients and disturbed people are going to look for opportunities to kill, whether they be guys and gals who worship Stalin, or the folks who are just looking to make an impact out of frustration and personal demons in their heads. Either way, it makes no sense to go out into the wild unprepared. We're insulated by concrete and A/C, but there are still predators out there, both in the public and private sectors.

Drift, you are correct. Here in Fl, Federal buildings, Court Houses, Schools, Employers (I think can keep employees from carrying, but not having in a vehicle IIRC.) I'm not sure about Hospitals, but I don't think so. You better check. As far as business's they can ask you not to carry. You are not obligated to follow their request. However, if for some reason they find out that you are carrying and ask you to leave and you don't, you are considered an armed trespasser by the law. If you are in public and your firearm is accidentally exposed or imprinted it is not a crime. This is my understanding as best I recall. However I have slept several times since taking the class several years ago, and as you well know, my memory is sometimes suspect. Too many damned prescription drugs.

Be A Responsible adult USA Citizen. Carry, if you can. ALWAYS BE looking around your area- situation. Any where that You are. Think- ahead- what if? Think ahead ! React as needed.
Thinking that way is not paranoidal. It's your life- families too. Step up to the mindset of- everything has changed - suddenly. Adapt to it. It's not that difficult, hey I did it. I carry more often now- The weapon is always within reach. Body, or car..... I'm in go mode - self defense- We all need to get into this mode. Responsible USA adult citizens, only!!!!

I'm a supporter of conealed carry 2nd Amendment but being a retired LEO I have some extra places I can legally carry compared to Il CCL holder. I had a friend notice a no concealed carry sign at a local Walmart which rather bothered him since he frquently purchased a good amount of items there. I looked at the sign and the sign stated the prohibition was for Walmart employees who were working and not a licensed CC holder.
I don't know if the management did this intentionally to keep patrons from packing concealed but when confronted the store management said they would only post the signs in employee restricted areas. I thought it was dumb to advertize no employees would be armed. This was the only Walmart I've ever seen with the placard indicating no concealed weapons. It just pays to be observant including signage. Fortunately there has been no bad situations involving concealed carry licensees in Illinois since the Courts forced Illinois to start issuing CCL's. There have been several times CCL holders have legally used their weapons and have not been charged. To my knowledge there hasn't been anyone arrested for committing a crime other than traffic offense while being armed with a CCL.

Of real concern to me is my kid goes away to college next year; where they will disarm her. Now...when I was 19 I carried a M79 and had no issues...but 4 years later I was in a Catholic girls school..and the social drama of those girls was deadly. I'm glad those girls were without deadly weapons. So maybe I'm OK with teenagers who are inundated by beer and liberal teaching being without firearms.
But thats no reason my kid should be totally unarmed. She has been trained to use batons, saps and TASERs; which seem to me to be reasonable defensive weapons in a college dorm. Yet not allowed apon penalty of expulsion. I'll bet if she showed up with a shell plate and carrier the school would object. On a brighter note, I guess I'll get to use her Walther 380 while she is away.
