Here for a long time I believed, I wanted to believe, these jihadist were a perversion of the Islamic Religion. However, as I acquire more data on islam I've come to understand that the more accurate statement is that muslims living peacefully along side non believers without converting them is a perversion of Islam.

Now you're just intentionally being dense. Of course they committed those atrocities because of what they believe and likely believed that Christianity somehow justified their actions. Just because they believe it, doesn't make it true much like just because you read it on the internet doesn't make it true.

How much clearer do I need to say that Christianity (the New Testament) does not teach nor condone murder, rape, or other such evil acts. This is not true of the Koran.
