Has any one ever used a Vortex Razor HD 1-4X Rifle Scope?
I am trying to decide between one of those or a Trijicon 1-4X accupoint. I already own two of the accupoints one with a red triangle on my rem 700 30-06 and a green greman #4 on my AR, and I ant to try some thing new but am hesitant to switch from what I know works.
If you want a good 1-4x, I would get the Vortex Viper PST 1-4x if you go with Vortex. Also, how beneficial has the bright fiber-optic reticle been for you with Trijicon? What is the application, and what blaster will it be going on? If you need the 1-4x to use on 1x for close quarter (house or dangerous game hunt), and 2-4x for 50m-400m work, there are a lot of good 1-4x scopes coming out. If you're in the market for the Vortex Razor HD 1-4 price range, you can get a good 1-6x scope from either GRSC, or Swarovski in the non-illuminated Z6. To get illumination with the Z6i, you step up to around $1800, but they are the top-notch dangerous game and 3-gun scopes right now, hands down. The glass is truly amazing, not hype. I really enjoy playing with other people's Z6i's, but just can't fork out the cash for one since I have two 1-4x's already, and am saving for a 3-12 or 4-16x56 for my long gun work.
I've read reviews and heard from a long-range buddy of mine that the Vortex 1-4x Razor HD has a tunneling effect, which was fixed with the Vortex Viper PST 1-4x, at less than half the price. I don't have any tunneling effect with the 2.5-10x44 Viper PST, and didn't see it on the 5-20x50 Razor HD, but I still have yet to touch a 1-4x Razor.
I just put a 2.5x10 vortex viper hd on my 223 and I love it...It has the dead hold ret. with 1.5,4.5,7.5 and 11 moa stadia.
If you go to vortex"s bul.calc. with your bullit data it will give you distace for zero to each hash mark at leval, 15 and 30 deg slopes...
Have the vortex viper 6.5 x24 pst on the 6.5 ...Vortex is good stuff but never tryed th 1x4.
The fiber optic is alright in low light and when taking quick shots but I normally use the built in cover to dim it down in full day light. This is going on a GP/scoutish rifle in 260 rem with a 16" barrel. I want to keep size and weight down and I never use any thing over 5x on any thing that I would use this rifle on any ways. Where are you shopping for Swarvosky scopes I can only find them in the $1600 range if you have a hok up to get one for around a grand let me know I will scoop it up!
I like the Razor but its missing two key features I would like to have witch are 1/4" adjustments and a first focal plane reticle. As for the GRSC that reticle is way to busy for me.
The Razors are FFP. You can get either .1 MRAD clicks with them, or 1/4" clicks with a MOA reticle. I saw a demo 1-6x Z6 w/o illum for $1200, but can't find where it was. I think it was linked through this forum. If it were me, I would want the best glass in my price range, with the best reticle for the application. Being able to resolve the target against its background and index the reticle precisely are probably the most important things to me when it comes to optics. You might try looking for that deal on the Z6 1-6x. It's the best Scout Scope I have used or seen so far.
