Yeah, the title says it. I fell in love. I finally after months of gathering the right parts and building other things to do my Grendel build they way I wanted it, I finally got to shoot her. Can't describe it. Transedental, maybe. F'ing awesome! I wish I would have done one sooner.
I started with my lwrc in patriot brown, with ace soccom stock, geiselle trigger. Good base. I just needed it to match. So I built a cerakote oven out of a 1920's fridge we had in the shed. I have 12 bucks into it and it works like a charm. Got some cerakote gathered my parts and waited till I had the time and weather to get it done. I'd post some pictures but I'm so computer internet forum inept I can't. But she's done and I'm in love.

I know what you mean. It's a special thing when all those bullet holes show up on the target in a tight little bunch. A semi-auto target rifle is a cool thing.

i hate seeing posts like this........ cause im still just a groupie.....
but hopefully ill have my rifle and be part of the horde!v should have my amax's today and ill load my OCW test rounds and just look at them... that's it... while the rifles being built lol.

Thanks guys. I tell you, its really hard to go to work. All I think is... 'Yeah, I could shoot that with my Grendel. ' Or ' I bet I could hit that from here with my Grendel.' Another is if I wasn't here right now I could be getting to really know my Grendel.' My coworkers I think are a little tired of hearing about it and my wife made me take it out of bed and put it in the safe. I'm mad at her for that one. I have to find a really good name for her ( The Grendel). Since its a switch a rue upper I suppose she might have a split personality. This rifle is pretty dang addictive. Its odd I've never been utterly excited about a broomstick like this. I even just got done building a 308 bolt rifle that's a bartlien barrel, defiance deviant action, manners a4 with surgeon bottom metal, vortex razor 5-20, and atlas bipod. Sure its neat but I'm not flipping out about it. Her name is Eep, like the cromagnon chick in " The Croods", my 5 year old boy got to name it. Moto Ryder I'm excited for you. As I am for everyone here running one. Though I'm sure there's a few here that feel its a little old hat. I hope with reading this it rekindles their romance.

I was at the range testing out an upper Wednesday. First elderly guy I see has an AA 24" GDMR. We get to talkin', and he says childishly, "I really like this 6.5 Grendel.", as if he had been given the coolest present for Christmas. He hadn't heard about the forum, or the Reloading handbooks, preferred powders, so I wrote down a bunch of info for him. He had just finished checking zero at 100, and started packing up his gear.
"I'm headed to a longer range!" Like a little kid, he was visibly excited. It was very funny and reinforcing to see, considering he is totally outside of the internet realm, just an old guy who has a rifle he really likes.
I then proceeded to shoot the 20" set-up I had into .638" with AA factory 123gr Scenar, called it good after zeroing, and headed home.

It's kind of like being the shy kid at school who gets to take the head cheerleader to the prom. And then she asks for another date! When I built my first one, I pulled a scope from an AR10 and just dropped it on. Went to the range, loaded 5 rounds and shot 3. All touching in a 5/8" group. Have never done that in over 50 yrs of shooting. I'm hooked! Your hooked. Bet you can't build just one!

Hah! Your right. I've been thinking about how I can finagle a lwrc piston system and rail and build another one with maybe a 22'' barrel. My current little girl is only 18'' I'm actually about to take her to the my canyon range and see how far we can go. I may be limited by my scope mount. It doesn't have a 20moa in it. It had been on my larue obr so I didn't need one with a cant. I don't know.

I got rid of my LR-308 right after I shot my 18" grendel for the first time. Now I'm itching for a 6.5 grendel SBR.

Grendellizing predators as of the fall of 2012.
Small bullets that go really fast, make me giggle...........

Yeah I was and am considering a 308 build, but honestly now that I have the Grendel I do not feel the "need" for it and it has been shelfed. The grendel reaches better, less recoil and can take down anything I plan to hunt.. Why spend more on gun itself, compounded then by more expensive bullets and powder?

Sold my 06 after I built the Grendel. Then took the money and built a Ruger 204 and haven't looked back.
