I once thought bolt actions were far superior in accuracy. While that's still probably true in a $ to $ comparison, with the improvements to machining ability and the AR platofrm I don't think the divide is notable for most shooters.

I'm not trying to knock a bolt action. I almost jumped on the train not long ago. A big draw, for me anyways, was that I could push pressures further (No need for the compound throat at higher pressures. I believe pac nor has a Grendel Match chamber that would be great for a bolt gun.). I could also load longer taking advantage of case capacity still available with the heavier projectiles. The longer bullets loaded to AR15 mag lengths take up a substantial amount of case capacity.

The inside length of the magazine is 2.327.

I did not measure the max COL for the 123SST but for the 107SMK it is 2.344.

May not be a benefit, but just the simple fact someone wants a Grendel in a bolt action. Plus you have state(s) that won't allow you to hunt with a gas gun. I want a boltie so my kids can shoot with it and hopefully hunt too.

We have all been waiting for this for 10 years. CZ527s are great little actions. Maybe Howa will make a bolt action Grendel in the model I want ...Maybe not. If anyone out there is serious about a bolt action Grendel, with this action you can get what you want. Or..you can get what Howa makes if or when they make one ,but you will get the howa cheaper.

It's good to hear CZ is getting a little closer to a Grendel bolt gun by offering these action assemblies even though the rifles will be a bit pricey. I don't know much about Howa but J&G still has new Zastava 7.62x39's for $369.00. My lefty buddy who sold me his right handed Sako just called saying he would sell me his right handed Zastava for $300 so he can buy a lefty.
Looks like my Grendel bolt gun will soon be joining the fold after an order to Pac-nor!

Would still like a factory Grendel. I have a CZ, Sako and weatherby Varmintmaster waiting for conversion (weatherby barrel will be here in two weeks) but a factory carbine would be the ducks guts! A copy of the 7.62 with a 18" barrel, no sights and no lump in the middle would be light handy and the Grandkids could handle it OK. Also it'd be close to matching their 452 scouts.

My Smith in Wylie Texas should finish mine ln the next week or so. Will report on it when I get it and have a chance to shoot it. This is his first 527 to work on but his other work gives me full confidence.


The one he is working on is a CZ 7.62X39 to Grendel conversion
True and square action with Obermeyer barrel, turned down to just bigger than factory contour and spiral fluted finished at 22 inches. For now keeping the wood stock, free floated an bedded. For a little more length adding a Kickeez recoil pad. The chamber is cut to minimum SAAMI spec and he now has the reamer for that.

Before selecting him for a local gun smith to do the job, was considering the CZ custom shop or McGowen who will install one of their barrels. Chambered threaded barrels are available from Lothar Walther for the 527
