Im posting here because we dont have an actual forum i saw for this kind of talk...
what 308 suppressors are the best bang for the buck? What do i need to look at brand wise... i know i want to be able to take it apart and clean it
whats the best place online yall have found to buy and start the process? Hows the process work? After the stamp comes in do they just mail the supressor to you or do you have to go pick it up somewhere? Etc etc etc etc etc... fill me in please! I know im gonna order the AAC element .22 lr suppressor, just looking at 308 ones now to run on a 308 and the grendel here... thanks for yalls input!

I just did mine in the form of a trust. You pay an atty to do the trust then you go buy the suppressor and fill out more paper work then you write BATFE a check for 200 then mail it all in and wait up to 4 months or more then they mail the stamp and then you get called to come pick up the suppressor. It all seems very backwards to me but what would one expect from the government. I am purchasing the Saker762 in 30 cal. In my reading one or more have said a dirty suppressor is more quiet than a clean one. The BATFE site has very good explanation and how to do it on their site. BANG BANG!!

I also have a saker 762 in can jail. To me the features and modularity were second to none in its price range.

I have a trust set up already for it, i just have to send them the serial number and such and they will finish that paperwork.. i just gotta buy the suppressor and stamp now...

I was reading online on the scilencer shop.com website... from what i gather i just buy it through them and they take care of all the papers and such then they mail the suppressor to me when the stamp comes in... texas is the only state they can ship it right to you i guess.. sounds easy enough... im kind of on the fence with the 308 one, im thinking about just doing a form 1 and making one... they are pretty pricy!

Capital Armory in TX are good people! That's who I'm getting mine from. They also do a four month payment plan. I'm really interested in the new dead air sandman coming out soon. Capital has the Saker for 799.00 but it's out of stock so not sure why. Recce 7 is a freaking workhorse.
So if it's about money performance YHM LT then Griffin Armament Recce 7 but it's a good suppressor for the money.

My advice would be to find a local LGS that deals with class 3 items. They can inform you on the process and can give advice on quality cans that they know of, or on the type their customers buy more often. Silencer Shop is a good place to buy a can online if you don't want to buy from a class 3 LGS.
I would recommend the SilencerCo line of cans for a 30 cal silencer. Ive sold a couple people on them, mainly because of their reputation for good CS. Their claimed noise suppression is also very respectable. My next can will be the Saker 762. I have a AAC sdn6 that I like, but its not all I want it to be. Mainly in having a huge POI shift with it on versus not. Groups open up a bit as well. People have claimed of very poor CS from AAC but my dealings with them have been very positive and prompt.
On a side note, you can call them a silencer...  .

Thank you! Ive been looking at stuff online all day today off and on... honestly im going to have to go somewhere i can hear the cans one by one and see what i think is quieter... im only interested in a can for subsonic loads anyways.

If you go to your local dealer that sells suppressors they will take care of you with all that you need to do. I went the trust route, it's easier on my opinion. My experience is this. .. I have a Thunderbeast Arms, I had no POI shift with it. My twin has the AAC Cyclone... it's very nice too but I love my TBAC more. It's rated up to 300 Win. Pm me and I can send you pictures of my targets. My bother on his rig had a 4 MOA shift with the Cyclone, mine did not. His Cyclone on my rig had no POI shift, misty be his rifle.

I have a Liberty can and it is a dedicated .300 blk only can ( Leonidas) I am on the fence about another one and it will be another .30 cal can but one that can change rifles. I do know that AAC had a sweet deal of a 200 dollar credit if purchased this year. But at the same time I have heard great things on the Thunderbeast also.....
I think you need to just hear a few and go from there. I think with sub ammo most of them will work that are in the higher price range. I know that with subsonic 220s my Liberty is quiet as a mouse fart

Some good info here but a few additional things for the guys in Texas.
Yes Silencer Shop can mail your suppressor to you upon issuance of the stamp but..... it can take up to two more weeks for you to receive your suppressor. Silencer Shop can give you better time lines on the shipping process but it is not a quick deal. If you are within driving distance, I would suggest going and picking it up. The process for purchase is still pretty much the same as with any suppressor. You will send a copy of your trust along with the check to the BATFE.
As for another vendor to deal with, check out SAW Guns in Sunnyvale Texas. They carry a crazy amount of suppressors on hand. If you purchase through them, you are only required to submit your paperwork and check at the time of purchase. You are not charged for the suppressor until you are approved and stamp issued. This makes it really nice if you have multiple suppressors that you are purchasing. Right now I have four different suppressor that are in NFA jail but will be able to spread out the full payment on them as they come in. A little easier on the pocket book.
As for local dealer vs. out of state dealer, definitely try to find someone local with in stock items. For example, on my Thunderbeast 338BA purchase, I used an out of state vendor that did not have the suppressor in stock. It took a month for Thunderbeast to get a serial number to my vendor. From that time of serial number issuance, it took almost two more months for the Form 3 transfer from Thunderbeast to my local dealer to complete. At that time, then I could submit my Form 4. That is an additional three months tacked on to the wait to get my suppressor. Needless to say, the other three I am waiting on were all in stock items purchased from local dealers so that the Form 4 paperwork could be submitted the following day. Now I am only waiting on the BATFE to do their part.
If you are not aware of the check process, your paperwork and check get sent to one branch/location of the BATFE. At that location, your check is removed from the paper work and deposited/cashed. Your paperwork is then sent to another branch/location for the actual processing/background checks. It is very possible for you to receive a pending date before your check clears the bank as the second location is not dependent on the check being cashed.
Hope this helps a little bit more in regards to some of the process.

Oh Silencer Shop has a Ton of videos up. Click on the can then video some will be sound metering against other cans some by it self. Also you need to decide what you want the can for? Quick follow ups, quieter can....

As for POI shift, my 762 sdn-6 has a huge POI shift if I screw it on tight. Back it off about half a turn and things are great. This is on the 300 BLK pistol. On the 300 BLK rifle, screw it on tight, on the 6.5 Grendel, screw it on tight. AAC told me that if you have a huge POI shift, back it off half a turn or 180 degrees and see how it shoots.

Find a dealer that will form a trust and make sure he has suppressor in stock. This will save time and if you are lucky the e-file system will be up and running and really save time.

Something else to consider is the possibility of muzzle threads not being concentric to the bore. The average FH, Brake or Comp will never see the difference, but a can with tight tolerances and, to a lesser degree, some compensators might. Baffle strikes are the bane of any suppressor, but being off center from the bore can still result in changes to POI. (Or so I've been told.)
