undimpled barrels

The thread on gas blocks brought up a question I have on dimpling barrels and the pros and cons. My barrel is un-dimpled and has no flat. Should I dimple it? Will dimpling cause any problems with accuracy or would I be best to just purchase a block that clamps on. I guess a case of poor forethought by a first time builder when I purchased the parts.

A clamp-on gas block is all you need in your situation, but a set screw works as well, when Red loc-tite is used. I have plenty of guns without the dimples, using set screw blocks.

Thanks LRRPF52, thought I had best ask and get it right the first time. Will save the set screw block so I have an excuse to build another upper later.

The only time no dimple may cause a problem is removing the gas block. A burr may be raised by the set screw making it harder to get the block off.
