Re: Guns in schools. I went to a small private school in upstate NY. There were kids from the city as well as the suburbs and farms. In my high school years, I regularly drove my truck to school with a rifle in the rear window gun rack. Just because. The school sponsored a hunter's safety course. The instructor wanted everyone to bring a shotgun and 3 rounds. The principle said to keep our guns in our vehicles (if we drove to school) until it was time for the class. If parents brought us or we road the schoolbus in, we had to put them in the principles office. The practice shots were done into swamp at the edge of the soccer field.

Those were the days.

But they were also the days of the teachers being able to paddle students. And generally, you got another when you got home.

That's the truth, right there. That's what it needs to come back to, also, because punkass kids now think they RUN the place. They need to respect those in authority positions (teachers, parents, LEO), and they need to respects elders.

Until we MAKE them respect that - they won't. The ass-whoopin's are WARRANTED, and those same asswhoopin's are DESERVED. Kids don't run this land - they need to be brought up with enough morals and common sense to RUN this land. So far, in these past couple generations, they have nothing but FAIL on their record...

Unfortunately, although "we saw what we saw," you are failing to realize one very critical fact: Except for a few named guns, the 1994 Assault Weapons Ban did not ban assault weapons; it banned certain cosmetic features.

AR15, FAL, and AK variants remained legal to manufacture, buy, and possess, provided they did not incorporate any of the banned features. And all assault weapons legally possessed prior to 1994, remained legal to possess.

Not sure how you think that is at all relevant. Most, if not all, of the mass shootings in the US were done either by citizens, or foreigners here legally.

If guns were illegal, only criminals would have guns. And criminals in the US would be well armed thanks to the Mexican cartels dealing in AKs. In Australia, somebody might actually go to jail for illegally dealing arms. In the US, an Attorney General did it with impunity. And actually has the gall to talk about running for President.

Mass shootings are a tiny percentage of overall gun violence. Mass shootings are a fraction of the gun related murders in Chicago each year. We all know the demographics of overall gun violence.
