FWIW, trying to achieve an exact torque spec on the barrel nut is overrated IMO. But perhaps that's discussion for another thread...

That Centurion looks nice but it's $300. A bit higher than I'm looking to spend and definitely not one my wife would hear about.

I missed any mention of a price ceiling. Otherwise, I wouldn't have suggested the CMR.

Looks like I misunderstood what the keymod system is all about.
It seems it is a way of attaching accessories via specially shaped slots in the rail itself, so helps reduce weight.

I had thought it was how it connects to the upper receiver. I had only looked at the Mega Maten keymod (http://megaarms.com/maten/upper-receiver...en-keymod/) which does use a proprietary connection.

So, if it's just referring to the attachment slots, then that Midwest Industries SSK-Key Mod would be cool, as would this one at Parallax Tactical (though it's a few oz heavier): http://parallaxtactical.com/collections/...rettyPhoto

You're right, Drifter; I didn't put a ceiling on price. And, I'm not opposed to spending a little extra if the CMR is the one I REALLY WANT.
I appreciate you providing that link, most definitely, because it was also added to my (ever growing) short list.

If keymod is your preference, the Noveske NSR is a quality piece. Price is ~$250. (I have both the CMR and NSR, and prefer the CMR for its "feel".)

If price is a deciding factor, note that some handguards might include accessory rails while others do not. Also consider if built-in sling attachments will save you from buying add-on versions.

I have one of the AP Custom carbon fiber handguards, a 12" length. 5.6 ounces, no typo. They are the lightest I have seen so far.

The AP Customs carbon fiber handguard is dead-on 2.000" OD on my calipers. It attaches to a standard AR15 barrel nut too.

Just going to add my 2 cents for the MI Gen II. After I put one on my carbine I bought another one for my Grendel. The OD Green is a slight problem, everyone has their own shade. Magpul, BCM and MI's OD are all a little different.

I'm looking to get a handrail for my 16" build. It will be used for hunting and I don't feel the need for too many picatinny rails. My primary concerns are that it be lightweight and slim. Perhaps a slim carbon model?

AP Customs all the way. I've built 2 5.56 carbines and one Grendel with them. They are damn near weightless and give you the option of some or no rails.
