I agree with the range guys. Try loading the first round with bolt cocking handle. Pulling it back sharply and releasing it instead of pushing the bolt release button. As for the cases shortening. If the chamber is "loose" the brass will flow back to fill the chamber, shortening the case. I found that when I was fireforming 22-250 to 22-250 AI.
