Wanderson,

a 4-24x50 sounds like a good reason to put together an 18"+ Grendel.

1-6x or 1-8x is probably perfect for a 12-12.5", I just like the extra magnification of my 2-10x. Probably a little heavy, especially when I get the suppressor put on there. My 18" has the PST Gen 2 3-15x.

I agree on the 1-8x being just about right for these 12 inch Grendels. I plan on picking up a Nightforce NX8 eventually for mine. I think it will go great on a pistol / SBR capable of being accurate out to 800 yards.

Does anyone have any good accuracy results with these PSA 12" uppers? Either the SS or Nitrided barrels? The pistol build kit is seriously tempting my wallet but actually reviews are limited and holding me back.

Thinking about picking up the kit but would like to know how much the complete upper weights in at.

Weight of upper including BCG and CH: 3.46 pounds

Weight of upper without BCG and CH: 2.68 pounds

Hope this helps! I hope to get mine assembled soon and shoot it, but my schedule is booked for the time being. Initial thoughts are that it is money well spent! On a side note the SBA3 brace has the PSA logo in the back which is a little odd in my opinion. Anyone have time to shoot theirs yet???

Well think I might scrap the pistol grendel and build a 24 inch grendel instead.

That 12 inch upper is only half a pound lighter then my 16 inch upper that's not enough weight savings to make it worth while for me to build one to hunt with.

Exactly how I feel. If I didn't already have a nicely appointed AA 16" carbine I'd absolutely hop on the 12" pistol bandwagon. As it is, my 22" BHW gets the most range time.

Ohh i want one of that you can be for sure but after googling all the weights of the parts I was going to use against the weights of parts on my 16 inch. The juice just ain't worth the squeese.

Sure it will be a grand total of 8.2 oz less and a grand total of just over 4 inch's shorter but that isn't enough difference to me to justify the cost at this time.

Later down the road when I'm back to work full time and got money just to burn for toys then I will get one.

20 for open area type hunting and playing at the range.

16 covers everything else.

Here's my 12 inch Grendel kit from PSA that came in the mail today. I just swapped out a K2 grip from a different rifle and topped it with a 1.75-5×32 Vortex Diamondback. Once I get it sighted in it'll be ready for thick woods (and open field) deer come November.

I finally got mine to the range today, ran 100 rounds of Wolf steel thru it. Was only able to shoot out to 50 yds but surprisingly small groups, impressive for cheap steel ammo. Zero malfunctions with CPD 26 round & Elander 17 round mags.
This is also the first AR I’ve owned with an adjustable gas block, now I wish they all had one. Once I got this dialed in it was shooting pretty soft with an H2 buffer.
I think it’s time to start stockpiling a new caliber.

This will be my first dealings with an adjustable gas block as well. Did you just start out shooting how it was factory set or did you turn it down and work your way up?

I got my PSA 12” Nitride pistol kit today as well. I got it assembled and test fired it with factory ammo. The pistol functioned 100 %. I threw on a 5 MOA Mini Red dot just for testing. Shot next to a tree at 25 yards and had 3 rounds almost touching. It was getting dark with light rain so I only shot about 20 rounds. Brass ejected to 3:30-4 o clock without adjusting the gas block. I used the supplied buffer and spring which made the gun very pleasant to shoot.

I decided to pull the red dot and put my 1-6 Vortex Strike Eagle on this pistol. I just don’t care for 4-5 MOA red dot sight on this build. I bought this upper as I thought it’d be a good barrel to shoot Wolf steel cased ammo. Hopefully I get to shoot it more in the next few days. I ordered another MBT 2S trigger which is going in my 18” Faxon build. I think I’m going to replace the EPT PSA trigger with a RRA NM trigger.

This will be my first dealings with an adjustable gas block as well. Did you just start out shooting how it was factory set or did you turn it down and work your way up?

I started with the factory adjustment (fully open) and closed it a half turn per shot, I was also trying to get my scope dialed in at the same time. Each turn made a noticeable difference in recoil and ejection pattern. Once I had a fail to feed I stopped adjusting, but the next 5 shots were good so I gave it one more half turn closed. That ran three shots fine but the next half turn was a FTF so I backed out a half turn and that’s where I’m at. Every shot after that was good.

I’ve heard it’s best to run dry on adjusting but I run all my ARs with light oil on the bolt face & extractor. Since I was breaking in a new upper and new mags I didn’t want to create any issues on first trip out.

The pistol lower I’m running had a RRA NM with a Wolff xtra power spring, SB fixed brace & H2 buffer since it usually runs my 7.62x39 10” upper. Good feel and looked like I was getting good primer strikes on the Wolf steel case.

Quick question as a 6.5g newb. At what distance should we be zeroing a 12” with a 1-6x scope and 100 gr Wolf?
Are there any methodology thoughts here on why a certain distance may be best? Any thoughts/ideas/help is greatly appreciated!
