Buy it and get a saami bolt , simple fix . My friend has 3 mega upper lower matching sets . One of those are the Maten (ar10) it's definitely the nicest billet upper lower I've ever seen . Wilson makes blanks for a number of high end manufactures like white oak arms , JP ( I think ), and a couple of others . You should get match accuracy .

Guys: There's no such thing as a SAAMI bolt. SAAMI does not set the face depth anywhere in their diagrams, only maximum cartridge and minimum chamber dimensions, as well as pressure ratings.

If you mean to just get a .136" bolt and use it in a chamber that was meant to shoot a .125" face depth bolt, you just added probably .020" to the headspace, since virgin brass is sized pretty short to the shoulder.

A rifle with a .125" bolt face depth should be used with a bolt that has .125", nothing else. Find an extractor made from a more exotic material that can maintain strength at the lip, since the lip thickness suffers in that set-up in order to fit over a thicker rim like Grendel or 7.62x39.

Thanks LR52, With the way my luck goes the head would break off the bolt just as I slam one in the chamber on my hunt. Never hunted with an AR but am going to this year. Don't want any problems and really like the .264 LBC. My buddy is wanting one now also.

I am in full agreement with LRRPF52. I did not intend for anyone to infer from what I said that the SAAMI spec meant .136" bolt face depth, and if anyone mistook my response to LH to mean as much, I apologize. I've been attempting to be quite deliberate in describing the SAAMI spec and the bolt face as two separate points.

Further, no one should ever attempt to interchange the different bolts as a means to address any issues, perceived or real. You'll either end up with a weapon that can't properly go into battery or one with an excessive head space problem.

BluntForceTrauma made this diagram a while ago to help better understand why the deeper bolt face depth was selected for the Colt 7.62x39, .50 Beowulf, and later the 6.5 Grendel.




This is a very basic mechanical engineering aspect of why things need to be the way they are with a well-engineered Grendel bolt, but only a static discussion.

When you look at articulation of the extractor snapping over the case rim, with enough depth in the groove to allow the extractor to align with the bolt again in battery, while also being able to clear the ID of the teeth in the barrel extension, it changes other dimensions of the bolt and extractor.

This is one of the many reasons why you can't just hog out a 5.56 bolt, especially when you look at firing pin protrusion, lug root strength, extractor pin location (it's not the same with Grendel), extractor pocket depth (not the same), etc.

When you see someone assuming otherwise (I was guilty of this myself before talking in-depth about it with Bill A.), they are not well informed.

I read it too fast . After I went back and looked twice I see what the fuss is about . just saw the saami throat and jumped too fast without seeing the .125 depth
