The JP Silent Buffer goes about the job a bit different as it is tunable by changing springs only, the mass remains constant. The same assembly works for both rifle & carbine versions within a given platform by removing a spacer for the carbine, i.e AR-15 or AR-10 specific units. I am running the JP's in both of my Grendels, one rifle length fixed stock and a collapsible and both run fine with Factory AMAX and all of my hand loads to date. I purchased a spring kit but have not needed to change from the standard supplied spring as yet. Not sure if this answers your question or not.
