Dad shot and Mom prepared(par-boiled, fried in lard) Groundhogs when we were young. They helped Dad survive the "Great Depression" and I can still hear him say "You gotta get the young ones, they aren't so bad". That's not how I like my food explained and after I got older I told him when I get a job I am not eating another! I kept my promise however still kill them frequently and leave them for predators and buzzards. He probably rolls over in his grave when I toss a "young one" into a cornfield!
