Generally the lighter bullets are cheaper and if you don't plan on shooting anything less than 55 grains you should be OK. I assume a 10.5 5.56 barrel would still stabilize 77 grain SMK or 75 grain Tap but I have no first hand experience with less than 16" barrels. I guess it boils down to your intended use.
Yeah, I was thinking the exact same thing but it was part of the package. I would have preferred 1/9 or 1/8 but this is just a range toy. While 1/7 is sub-optimal for cheap 55gr ammo, I believe it'll be fine out to 100yd.
The other place I was looking at, Mas Defense, would have cost nearly $200 more to get the looser twist barrels...and this was without a free float hand guard.
It is really hard to get just what you want when you are working on the cheap. I have tried to keep the budget down while getting decent quality parts.
Part of me wanted to go whole hog and get the good stuff but then I have to realize that my application is nothing more than fooling around at the range.
