Visiting Seattle a few days ago and made it out to Rainier Arms. They have a few different rails on display and the CMR looked nice. Expensive, but the attention to detail shows. Nice grip, with the screw-on panels. Doesn't feel like you're holding a frame.
The attachment system seemed solid enough. The 14" didn't feel flimsy at all. They are not the only ones to use the barrel nut with a channel and single cross screw to stop it from moving forward. Plus the two screws to clamp it at the bottom.
Not many out there at the moment, all backordered. I might do what you're doing and wait a little. If still keen then go the 14" for the 18" Grendel.
