Considerations on the Evolution of War

This thread has the title Considerations on the Evolution of War and the original post has no mention of defining specific cartridges.

It is OK for now to discuss what an adversary might bring against us. Jumping in with ideas about specific cartridges and weapons we might adopt distracts from attaining the objective of defining what they must do, e. g.:

• target ranges (including span of ranges and frequency of occurence)
  
• ability to identify targets
  
• consequences of collateral damage
  
• terminal performance needs
  
• accuracy needs
  
• etc.
  

Discussing this in terms of the difference in threat and environment between Gen III and Gen IV warfare is an excellent way to get there.
