Glad to have you here. I think most of use did/thought the same way. I almost went the AR-10/DPMS 308 route. Actually 6.5 Creedmore. But liked the small frame better, at least all the furniture will fit other rifles.
I don't know the NorthWest that well, but flying in/out. I believe there is a large shooting range just east/southeast of Seattle.
