Granted, the definition here is somewhat looser than the formal definition of "myth." In this context "myth" refers to a belief, usually unfounded, in how things work.

Credible tests are not an "enormous challenge" at all. Even if one views some informal tests as "not credible," procedures used by the Army and FBI can be found online.

When was the last time one of us defined and conducted or participated in a test that was a accepted by a government agency as valid? I have been on both sides of that coin. The most difficult hurdle is that any test we propose and conduct without benefit of contract will suffer from prejudice by being unsolicited. The second most difficult challenge is defining and conducting the test in way that connects with the interests of the government agency or industrial entity you're courting.

Of course, having the right connections helps...
