I professionally train my Airedale Terrier...she gets routine "bite work" on a live human (wearing a bite sleeve/suit). Includes obedience. You would be surprised how dogs actually behave the first time in training. Most people think they have a bad-a$$ dog only to find they run away...LOL. They need training.

However, I don't really want this thread to digress into dog selection. I'm really interested in the rifles you choose for home defense.
