I've seen several engraved as "Pistol", although it might have gone to a serialized list at one point:

They can't make heads or tails of what they're doing because NFA doesn't make Constitutional sense, nor does it make sense in Stare Decisis. It also defies logic since handguns are in wide circulation and can't be banned according to the Supreme Court now, but SBR's and SBS's are highly regulated. Furthermore, shotguns have a different arbitrary legal limit on the barrel length than rifles. Where's the legal justification for that?
None of it makes any sense. Then show a court that a .22 LR AR15 with 16" barrel has a shorter OAL than a 14.5" AR15 in center-fire chambering, and ask the court what the intent of the law is. Then show them the overall length of an AR15 pistol, which has no special considerations other than being handled like a regular pistol.
