Bullet Seating Depth

Thanks for all the great information. Sorry I didn't include more info in my original post. It is an AR and I am shooting 120 grain Nosler Ballistic Tips. I do have some 123 grain A-Max's. I will measure with those to see if the seating depth changes. I have maintained the 2.226 AOL with everything so far. Have not loaded anything longer yet. I do have the 6.5 Grendel Reloading Handbook and will read through it a little more thoroughly.

You have fired 100 rounds of different loads and are frustrated that you can't find one you think is accurate?

Find the overall length where the bullet just touches the rifling. Back off .020 or so and see if it fits the magazine with some play at the tip. If it fits the mag and stands off from the lands, most likely you will be fine. The limiting factor in most cases is the magazine length.

And remember that if your load is so sensitive to overall length that a difference of .01 inches means the difference between the best and worse performance, you need to find another load.

You may need to focus your attention on position development and simple marksmanship skills as well.
