you can go to midway usa and find a cheekrest for $9. I think the first scope I put on my 96 mauser was a tasco or maybe a bushnell. They have such mild recoil that it lasted a couple of years. I never had any problem reloading the 96 mauser. 100% reliable feeding with 120-160gr bullets. (cheap lee die set). those rifles are head and sholders above the Mosin Nagant.
