Actually the trajectory out to 1,500 metres is said to be pretty much the same as the .50 BMG ball (special sniper loadings of the .50 with low-drag bullets can beat this easily, of course, but they don't fire those from MGs) so I suspect that the effective range isn't that different, in terms of accuracy and dispersion. The hitting power is a lot less, though, of course, and it's too small to have bullets like the MK211 SAPHEI.
