Using thick heavy tape, tape off the carrier everywhere except the face that is exposed when the ejection port door is open. You can then take fine grit sandpaper to the area you want Cerakoted, and prep the area with abrasion in that manner, since the NiB surface is so smooth. The main areas that shouldn't be coated are the 4 guide rails that actually touch the inside of your upper receiver.
After a sufficient surface abrasion is achieved, where the high polish sheen of the NiB surface is now dull, remove the tape and aggressively degrease the carrier while only handling with gloved hands from then on. After being degreased, give it an acetone bath, let dry, and apply high temp oven tape, leaving only the ejection port area exposed. Then spray on the coating. Air dry and bake. Let me know if you aren't set-up for that, and I'll do it.
Wow, and I was going to tell him to get a black magic marker and slop it on anything shiny, like we used to do in the field in the Army. I even saw 2nd Lieutenants convert their gold bars to black when they got promoted. Both the metal and subdued cloth ones. Also works on belt buckles, boot eyelets, steel rimmed glasses, armorers goofs, etc., etc.
