I think we are starting to see the reason that virtually all reloading manuals and sites have the admonition "START LOW AND WORK UP CAREFULLY!" Many of them suggest that the starting load be 10% below the maximum recommended load.
The usual explanation is that every rifle, case, powder lot, etc. is different from others that are nominally identical. These variations WILL affect load performance. Sometimes the effect is reduced velocities and pressures. Other times, like the present case, the velocities and pressures are high. The really lucky ones are those which display nominal results.
