I just received all the parts for my Grendel build so I am pretty excited. I measured the barrel extension diameter and compared it to the receiver and there is some play approx.002. I read that several people have used Loctite 242 or 243 to bed the extension. I went to my local auto parts store and could only find Loctite 242 and I picked up a feeler gauge set. The feeler gauge set I picked up had a gauge measuring .0015, so I unscrewed it from the set and I wrapped around the barrel extension which made it approx. 90% all the way around the extension. I carefully inserted it into the receiver and had to used a rubber mallet with light taps to get it in all the way. No more wiggle. I did lap the receiver to ensure it was square. My question is did I make a mistake by using the shim in place of the Loctite. I believe the shim is steel. I torqued the barrel nut to 60 foot pounds to line up the gas tub. I have a heavy 24 inch Shilen barrel, standard YHM receiver, free float tube, low profile gas block, m16 bolt carrier, rifle butt stock, rifle length gas tube and a 3lb trigger.
