Good Find!
I'll re post the comparison with the corrections.
From what I can find Carpenter 158 is a proprietary Steel Alloy of Carpenter.
According to Ridgerider's find at http://www.industrialmetalsales.com/...d-Bar_c379.htm Carpenter 158 is AISI P-6.
Per azom.com:
Composition of 9310
Element Content (%)
Nickel, Ni 3.00-3.50
Chromium, Cr 1.00-1.40
Manganese, Mn 0.45-0.65
Silicon, Si 0.15-0.30
Phosphorus, P 0.025 (max)
Sulfur, S 0.025 (max)
Molybdenum, Mo 0.08-0.15
Carbon, C 0.08-0.13
Per http://www.specialsteel-jy.com/P6_tool_steel.html
Composition of AISI P6
Element Content (%)
C 0.05-0.15
Mn 0.35-0.70
Si 0.10-0.40
Cr 1.25-1.75
Ni+Cu 0.75
P 0.03
S 0.03
mechanical Properties
9310 per azom.com
Properties Metric Imperial
Elastic modulus 190-210 GPa 27557-30458 ksi
Poisson's ratio 0.33 0.33
AISI P-6 per http://www.specialsteel-jy.com/P6_tool_steel.html
Properties Metric
Poisson's Ratio 0.27-0.30
Elastic Modulus (GPa) 190-210 GPa
Their mechanical properties seem to be identical. It's only their chemical makeup that we see a difference. Now I'm REALLY interested into why Bill A. and Mark at PF chooses to use 9310.
