Sorry, I've been really busy in the last 30 hours since I posted that.
I generally prefer to let people find their own conclusion, while pointing them at stuff that led me to mine.
Yes, Variable has it right. We can't fix this without shutting down the current system and restarting with less crap in the system. We simply can't carry the current burden of entitlements and freeloaders.
Some folks are going to have 2 options, start working or starve, and most of us aren't going to have much else to say about it. Able bodied people simply can't be carried. We have and will always have the ability to care for the truly incapable, but we've created 3 generations of people who think their food comes from the government, and make no attempt to better themselves, or even to TRY to feed themselves. That creates a situation where those actually entitled to benefits will see them go away as the government tries to stretch more and more from less and less.
(VA benefits are already stretched to the max. In New York and some areas of New England a disabled veteran from the current conflict will wait over 600 days, on average, before he gets benefits. Some areas are better, but the nationwide average is over 300 days.) Those benefits aren't available because so much money is funneled to people who don't deserve the services, but the politicians have decided to give them anyways. If I was a conspiracy theorist, I would wonder if its intentional, since vets seldom vote Democrat, while welfare recipients seldom vote anything else!
It really doesn't matter who we vote for at this point. The train has left, and the caboose has to follow. The only way to get the train on the right track is to wait for it to run out of diesel, and rebuild it on a new track, because this one leads only to disaster.
My hope is that it happens sooner, rather than later, so I can be part of the rebuild and not leave it to my kids and grandkids. As Thomas Paine said, "If there be trouble, let it be in my day, that my child may have peace."
