Let's apply that policy to all our supposed allies.

Great idea in theory, but that would put a crimp in a lot of our treaties/mutual defense pacts. Once you rule out the socialists, the third world leaches, and the backwards/regressive weirdoes, there ain't a lot left. Would imagine the only ones remaining after that would be ABCA (America, Britain, Canada, Australia and New Zealand). Not an economics expert, but would imagine that if we ended our participation in defense pacts/stopped living up to our treaty obligations (regardless of how self deprecating and unsavory they may be) and cut off everyone except ABCA, our economic viability would plummet.

Don't get me wrong - I've been to Saudi Arabia...and several other countries in that area of the world...and they all make my teeth itch. Problem is the last time we, as a nation, perused a isolationist policy, it didn't end well for anyone.
