My mom immigrated here and only spoke English with me, much to my chagrin, as learning her mother tongue isn't something you just do as an adult.

Growing up, my siblings and I learned to say the dinner blessing in Norwegian to please our grandparents. We sang the Star Spangled Banner in English to make them proud. There is nothing wrong with honoring your heritage, as we all should, but we should also remember what makes this country great - The United States of America.
